These are the listed rates, not a guarantee of the price or promotional eligibility on every account. Check Spotify’s US Premium page and your account before choosing or changing a plan.
When the new price applies to existing subscribers
Spotify’s January 15 announcement said US subscribers would receive an email over the following month explaining how the update affected their subscriptions; it did not say every account would change on January 15. Spotify Support says subscribers receive a one-month grace period before the new price takes effect. Your billing date depends on when you subscribed, so check the date shown on your account page and the notice sent to your email. Spotify’s announcement and its price-update guidance describe the timing.

If you are on a trial
Spotify says trial users get one month at the original price after the trial ends. The new price applies after that month. Check your account details for the trial end date and subsequent billing information.
How to respond before your next bill
Spotify’s guidance identifies three options: choose another paid plan you qualify for, continue with Spotify Free, or cancel before the next billing date. A plan change is not the same as cancellation; confirm the selected plan, eligibility and billing details in your account rather than assuming a switch will delay or prevent a charge.

- Verify the result: Confirm the plan status and next billing information in your account after making a change.
Spotify says Free retains access to saved tracks, playlists and podcasts, with music and podcast listening supported by ads. Its guidance on plan choices and cancellation is at Spotify Support.
Can you use a Spotify gift card?
Spotify says lower-price gift cards remain redeemable, but only for Premium Individual. A gift card does not reduce the recurring monthly price after its value is used, and Spotify’s guidance does not say these cards apply to Duo or Family. Check the card’s terms and your account before redeeming it.

Why Spotify says it raised prices
Spotify’s January announcement said occasional price updates across its markets reflect the value it delivers and help it continue offering what it considers the best possible experience and benefit artists. Spotify Support also says the change is intended to let the company continue innovating in changing market conditions and provide personalization and discovery tools. These are Spotify’s stated reasons, not independent evidence about the increase’s effects.
At Spotify Investor Day on May 21, 2026, co-CEO Alex Norström said, “We’ve raised prices multiple times with minimal churn because users see the value and stick around.” That is Norström’s characterization of subscriber response; the statement does not provide an independently verified churn figure for this US price increase. The remarks are published by Spotify’s newsroom.
