What did the April 2024 report say?
Bloomberg reported on April 3, 2024, citing unnamed people familiar with Spotify’s confidential plans, that the company intended to raise monthly prices by about $1 to $2 in five markets. The UK, Australia, and Pakistan were among the markets named, with changes expected by the end of April. Bloomberg also reported that a US increase was planned later that year. Same-day coverage by 9to5Google said Spotify was considering Premium options at then-current prices that would exclude audiobook listening, with audiobook access available at additional cost. Did Spotify announce a price increase in 2026?
Yes. On January 15, 2026, Spotify announced a price update affecting Premium subscribers in the United States, Estonia, and Latvia. It said affected subscribers would receive emails over the following month explaining the change, and directed new subscribers to their local Premium pricing page because plan availability varies by market. Are the new tiers audiobook-free?
The 2024 report described planned Premium options without included audiobook listening, but later Spotify materials do not establish that the exact forecast launched. At its May 2026 Investor Day, Spotify discussed Audiobooks+ as a paid add-on for listeners who reach their monthly audiobook limit. The company said more than one million users were paying for Audiobooks+ in less than a year. Its Investor Day recap said the add-on was on track to reach $100 million in annualized recurring revenue in July 2026 and described higher-hour add-on tiers for power readers and Family and Student plans. Those developments show audiobook add-ons and expanded listening options; they do not prove that Spotify introduced the specific 2024 Premium plans without audiobooks. What should subscribers do if their price changes?
Spotify says it will email subscribers about a new price and provide a one-month grace period to cancel before it takes effect. The billing date appears on the account page. What is not established by the subscriber numbers?
