Spotify announced a Premium price update for subscribers in the United States on January 15, 2026. Its current U.S. pricing page lists Individual at $12.99 per month, up from the previously reported $11.99. The change applies on each subscriber’s billing schedule, not on one universal date; Spotify says affected subscribers receive an email and have one month to cancel before the new price takes effect.

What changed in the January 2026 increase?
Spotify’s January 15, 2026 announcement confirmed a Premium price update for subscribers in the U.S., Estonia, and Latvia. It said affected subscribers would receive an email over the following month explaining how the update affects their subscriptions. The announcement did not list every old and new U.S. plan price.

TechCrunch reported that the U.S. Individual plan rose from $11.99 to $12.99 per month. It also reported the plan’s earlier U.S. prices as $9.99 before the 2023 increase, $10.99 after the 2023 increase, and $11.99 after the 2024 increase. Those figures describe Individual, not a complete history of every Spotify plan.
Spotify described its rationale this way: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” That is the company’s explanation, not an independently established account of the reasons for this specific increase.

When will the new price reach your account?
There is no single effective date for every subscriber. Spotify says it emails affected subscribers with the new price and gives them one month to cancel before it applies. The price change is tied to each account’s billing schedule, so the date depends on when the subscription renews.
To check your next billing date, sign in to your Spotify account and review the subscription details on the account page. Spotify Support says trial subscribers get one month at the original price after the trial ends; the new plan price applies after that month.

How can you avoid the higher Premium charge?
Spotify identifies two alternatives for subscribers who do not want the updated Premium price: check whether another paid plan fits, or use Spotify Free, the ad-supported service. Spotify says Free retains access to saved tracks, playlists, and podcasts.
- Compare paid plans: Student requires verification; Duo and Family are for members at the same address. Their current prices and account limits are listed above.
- Switch to Free: This avoids the Premium subscription charge, but the service is ad-supported.
- Cancel: Spotify says you can cancel at any time. To avoid the next charge, cancel before your next billing date; use the notice email and account page to confirm the timing that applies to you.
Spotify Support describes the one-month notice period as the time to cancel before the new price applies. Review the notice email rather than assuming the announcement date is your personal deadline.

Yes. Spotify Support says a gift card purchased at a lower price remains redeemable, but gift cards can be redeemed only for Premium Individual. Spotify does not say that redeeming one locks future recurring subscription charges at the former rate.
