The video is sponsored corporate content, so its framing that the project is “nearing” a decision should not be read as confirmation that approvals are in hand or a final decision is imminent.
What the sponsored video’s framing means
New Polaris is a proposed, 100%-owned Canagold gold-antimony project in northwest British Columbia. “Near a construction decision” is the video’s framing, not evidence that regulators or the company have approved construction. Canagold filed a feasibility-study technical report on September 3, 2025, but the report recommends additional work to reduce project risks before a construction decision. What the feasibility study estimates—and what it does not
Canagold’s 2025 feasibility study models project economics using stated assumptions; these are projections, not operating results, independent forecasts, or a guarantee that the mine will be built. Under an assumed gold price of US$2,500 per ounce, the company reports an after-tax net present value (NPV) of US$425 million, an after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 30.9%, and a 2.4-year payback. It estimates US$250 million in pre-production capital and life-of-mine all-in sustaining costs (AISC) of US$1,247 per payable gold ounce. Each figure is from Canagold’s 2025 study, and actual results could differ as metal prices, costs, permitting and other assumptions change. Which approvals and decisions remain
Canagold says New Polaris is subject to a consent decision from the Taku River Tlingit First Nation (TRTFN) and an Environmental Assessment Certificate under British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Act. The company says construction and operating permits may be applied for and issued under applicable provincial and federal legislation after environmental assessment is completed. The company’s materials do not establish that these requirements have been satisfied or that construction has been authorized.
Canagold’s feasibility page quotes CEO Catalin Kilofliski saying the company’s primary focus is shifting toward completing permitting to advance the project “toward a construction and production decision.” That is the CEO’s description of the company’s focus, not confirmation of an approval or decision date. The page also quotes TRTFN spokesperson Charmaine Thom describing the company’s land acknowledgement and willingness to work toward a Consent Based Agreement as a testament to reconciliation. This is the company’s presentation of Thom’s statement; it should not be taken as a statement of the Nation’s position on every aspect of the project. What Canagold has announced about 2026
On March 16, 2026, Canagold announced that New Polaris had been added to the Canadian government’s advanced gold-antimony projects map. In the same announcement, the company said a fully funded 7,000-metre diamond-drilling program was planned to begin in June 2026. These are company-announced milestones; the announcement alone does not confirm whether drilling subsequently began or finished, and neither milestone represents construction authorization. Canagold’s March 16 announcement describes them.
Earlier, the company said its Initial Project Description submission in March 2023 formally began the early-engagement phase of British Columbia’s environmental assessment process. That is a historical process milestone, not a reliable indication of the exact assessment stage now. Likewise, a timeline in Canagold’s March 2025 corporate presentation set out permitting, feasibility and financing expectations for 2025 and 2026; it was a company plan, not proof that financing, permits or a construction decision were completed. The company’s materials support a clear distinction: New Polaris has a feasibility study and announced development work, but construction depends on further steps. The exact environmental assessment stage and the status of the required consent decision and certificate as of October 9, 2026 are not established by the cited materials. Anyone assessing the project’s present status should check current records from the relevant British Columbia regulators and the Nation, as well as Canagold’s dated announcements. The feasibility study’s attractive modeled returns should be weighed alongside its stated assumptions, approval dependencies and recommended risk-reduction work.
