What concerns were raised?
PerthNow reported 19 consultation submissions: 14 opposed to the changes and five in support. Those submissions are not a poll of Fremantle residents. Reported concerns included the proposal’s height and lack of on-site parking, as well as the possibility that a hotel beside an established music venue could prompt complaints or affect the area’s live-music character. These were concerns raised by submitters, not established impacts. PerthNow report.
PerthNow quoted presiding member Dale Page saying the panel had discretion to approve the additional height and that, in her view, it would have “no undue impact on the surrounding area.” The City’s investment agency has highlighted the proposal’s street-level activity, public space and response to Fremantle’s heritage setting. These are the panel’s reported reasoning and the City’s framing, not measured outcomes. City of Fremantle investment update and PerthNow report.
