Southwest’s Reported 31-Route Expansion: What Was Scheduled for March 2–8, 2026

Aviation Doctor reported 31 Southwest route additions scheduled for March 2–8, 2026, but the complete city-pair list and operation of every flight are not independently confirmed by official materials.

The “31 new routes launch next week” headline referred to a schedule window from March 2 through March 8, 2026—not an upcoming launch. A 2026 report by Tomas Chlumecky of Aviation Doctor counted 31 scheduled additions in that week: 25 domestic and six international. That count is secondary reporting, and the official materials available do not independently confirm the complete list or prove that each flight operated.

What Southwest’s reported 31-route expansion means

The figure describes scheduled route additions attributed to Southwest for March 2–8, 2026. It is not a current announcement, a count of routes launching now, or confirmation that all 31 city pairs began operating as planned. The 25 domestic and six international breakdown also comes from Chlumecky’s secondary summary, rather than a complete official Southwest route table. Aviation Doctor’s report

Because a full list of the 31 city pairs and dated evidence of their operation are not established by the available sources, it would be misleading to publish a reconstructed route map or name individual pairs as confirmed additions.

How to check whether a route is available now

A route announcement, a current route listing, and a bookable flight are different things. Southwest notes that some new-destination services are seasonal, and an announced intention to serve a destination does not necessarily mean flights are available for every date.

  1. Check the destination and start-date information. Consult Southwest’s new-destinations page for listed markets and stated service dates, while noting any seasonal qualification.
  2. Check the city pair. Use Southwest’s route list to see whether a market and nonstop option are currently listed. A live listing does not establish that the service operated during the week of March 2–8, 2026.
  3. Check the dates you plan to travel. Search Southwest’s booking options for your specific origin, destination, and travel dates. Current bookability can change and does not, by itself, verify historical operations.

To establish whether a particular flight operated in March 2026, look for dated historical schedule or operating evidence for that city pair; current route pages are not a substitute.

Separate Southwest network changes announced later in 2026

Southwest’s May 4, 2026 announcement described new or additional flights in Las Vegas and Orlando beginning in spring 2026 and continuing through spring 2027. That is later network context, separate from the March 2–8 report. In the announcement, Southwest Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson said, “Las Vegas and Orlando are foundational communities in our network, and places where Southwest long has offered the most service, seats, and nonstop travel options.” Southwest’s May 4 announcement
