Southampton CEO’s Financial Update: What Phil Parsons Said—and What the Accounts Show

Southampton CEO Phil Parsons said owner Dragan Solak “continues to support the club financially,” but his 12 May 2026 message did not disclose an amount or new financial figures. The message was principally about an incident reported at Middlesbrough and the club’s response. For a fuller financial picture, Southampton’s latest located accounts cover the year ended 30 June 2025; BBC Sport reported a £53.9 million pre-tax loss, £158 million in revenue and a £116 million wage bill from those accounts.

What Parsons’s May 2026 message covered

Southampton’s official message, “A message from CEO, Phil Parsons,” was published on 12 May 2026. Its main subject was an incident reported at Middlesbrough, not a presentation of the club’s accounts. Parsons said Southampton was cooperating with the EFL and its Disciplinary Commission while carrying out an internal review. He said the club had sought time to complete that process and urged that the full context be established before conclusions were drawn.

What the club said about owner support

In the same message, Parsons wrote: “Dragan Solak continues to support the club financially, and we remain proud to have stayed competitive while operating within financial regulations, something that is important for the long-term stability of the club.”

That is the club’s statement about financial backing. It does not specify an amount, the form of support, a schedule, or conditions. It therefore does not establish how much Solak has provided or whether further funding is planned. Parsons’s reference to operating within financial regulations is also a statement from the club, not a disclosure of figures or a detailed explanation of compliance.

What Southampton’s latest located accounts show

The latest located full accounts for Southampton Football Club Limited cover the year ended 30 June 2025. Companies House lists them as filed on 4 April 2026; the company is registered as Southampton Football Club Limited, company number 00053301. BBC Sport reported the following figures from those accounts:

Measure 2024–25 figure
Pre-tax result £53.9 million loss
Revenue £158 million
Wage bill £116 million
Wages as a share of revenue 73%
Player signings £90 million
Profit from player sales £29 million

These are figures for the 2024–25 accounting period as reported by BBC Sport from the filed accounts, not numbers supplied in Parsons’s May 2026 message. The wage-to-revenue figure indicates that wages represented a substantial share of the reported revenue, but it does not by itself explain the pre-tax loss or show the club’s cash position.

The sporting context—and what it cannot establish

Southampton finished 20th in the Premier League in 2024–25 and were relegated; BBC Sport reported that the club’s fate was confirmed with seven matches remaining. That describes the sporting backdrop to the accounts, but it does not, on its own, explain why the club recorded a loss. The figures above are a single season’s snapshot, not a trend or a like-for-like comparison with another club or season.

What remains undisclosed

The May message does not quantify Solak’s financial support or set out its terms. The available figures do not establish the club’s current-season performance, cash reserves, debt, budget, or future owner contributions. Readers should treat the official message and the 2024–25 accounts as separate sources from different dates, rather than as one updated financial briefing.
