The Sony BRAVIA XR8B 55-inch OLED (model K-55XR8B) was reported at $998 on Amazon, down from $1,098, in a deal updated March 18, 2026. That was the lowest Amazon price tracked for this model at the time—not a verified all-time low, and not proof that $998 is still available. Check the live listing’s size, condition, seller, fulfillment and checkout total before buying.
What the $998 deal actually covered
The offer concerned Sony’s 2025 BRAVIA XR8B OLED television, specifically the 55-inch K-55XR8B. WePC described an Amazon price of $998 against a prior $1,098 price, a $100 reduction, and called it the lowest Amazon price tracked for that model when the article was updated on March 18, 2026. Read the original deal report.
That wording is narrower than “lowest price ever.” It does not establish the lowest price at every retailer, whether Amazon sold the set directly, or whether the offer was new, refurbished, coupon-dependent or limited to particular delivery areas. The report predates the August 18, 2026 pricing snapshot, and the exact 55-inch Amazon checkout price was not independently verified there. Treat $998 as a historical benchmark unless the live product page confirms it.
How to verify the listing before paying

What you get with the XR8B
Sony’s product information identifies the XR8B as a 4K OLED Google TV line sold in 55-, 65- and 77-inch sizes. OLED’s more than eight million self-lit pixels can turn individual pixels off, giving movies and games very deep blacks without the haloing common on many backlit LCD sets. Sony’s XR processor handles upscaling, motion and tone mapping. See Sony’s XR8B product information.

These specifications support current console features; they do not mean every game renders at 4K and 120 frames per second. Check the manual’s port allocation if you need multiple simultaneous 4K/120Hz devices. Sony’s published specifications list the gaming, HDR and smart-TV features above in its XR8B specifications PDF.
Who should buy at $998
- PS5 owners: The 120Hz panel, VRR, ALLM and Sony’s two PS5 picture features align well with the console.
- Movie and series viewers: OLED contrast and Dolby Vision are especially useful in dark or moderately lit rooms.
- Buyers staying at 55 inches: You get Sony’s processing and screen-based audio without moving to a larger, more expensive set.
- Sony ecosystem owners: A compatible Sony soundbar or receiver can use the TV’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ system as a center channel.
Who should wait or choose another TV
- Very bright-room viewers: OLED is not automatically the best choice when sustained, full-screen brightness matters more than black level.
- Static-content users: A PC desktop, signage, ticker or 24-hour news channel can increase burn-in risk over prolonged, repeated exposure. Use varied content and the TV’s protection features.
- Lowest-price shoppers: A less expensive LG or Samsung 55-inch OLED may deliver the core OLED experience for less, depending on current promotions.
- Connectivity-heavy gamers: Verify how many HDMI inputs provide the capabilities you need; do not assume all ports are identical.
- Shoppers comparing newer models: A brighter or newer Sony, LG or Samsung OLED may be a better value if its live price is close to or below the XR8B’s.
How it compares with alternatives
LG 55-inch C-series OLED
LG’s C-series is a natural comparison for console buyers and often emphasizes broad gaming connectivity. Compare the exact generation, number of full-capability HDMI inputs, warranty, panel brightness and live price rather than relying on launch pricing.

Samsung 55-inch S-series OLED

Older Sony A80L
The A80L is an older 2023 Sony OLED with a similar Google TV and PS5-oriented feature family. Sony’s direct 55-inch page marks it no longer available and lists $1,699.99, so remaining units are retailer or marketplace stock. It is worth considering only when substantially cheaper than newer XR8B inventory. Sony A80L information.

| Your situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| New K-55XR8B from an authorized or otherwise trusted seller at $998 or less | Buy if you want Sony processing, OLED contrast and PS5 features. |
| Price materially above $1,000 | Wait and compare with live LG, Samsung and newer Sony offers. |
| Only used, open-box, refurbished or unclear-warranty units reach the target price | Proceed cautiously; savings may not offset panel or return risk. |
| Very bright room or extensive static desktop/news use | Skip this OLED category or choose a display better suited to that use. |
Bottom line on the “lowest price” claim
The $998 figure is a credible historical Amazon deal for Sony’s 55-inch K-55XR8B, reported March 18, 2026. It means “lowest price tracked on Amazon” in that report—not a verified all-time or nationwide record. Buy only after the live listing confirms the 55-inch model, new condition, acceptable seller and complete delivered price. At that threshold, it is compelling for a PS5 or movie-focused buyer; above it, compare current alternatives before committing.
