This was a historical Black Friday 2023 deal, not a current promotion. On November 23, 2023, the U.S. factory-unlocked 256GB Sony Xperia 1 V fell from approximately $1,399.99 to $1,199.99 at Amazon and Best Buy—a $200, or roughly 14.3%, reduction. The offer has expired.

PhoneArena described $1,199.99 as the phone’s “lowest price to date” when it published its report. That should not be interpreted as an independently verified all-time low across every retailer, region, open-box unit, refurbished listing, or later clearance sale. Amazon and Best Buy listings were not automatically interchangeable
The deal referred to the U.S. unlocked 256GB version, but an Amazon listing with a similar title was not necessarily identical to Best Buy’s product. Best Buy identified its product as the 256GB 5G unlocked Xperia 1 V, black, SKU 6544417. Its listing said the phone was compatible with major U.S. carriers. Before buying an older Xperia 1 V from Amazon or another marketplace, check:
- Model: Confirm XQDQ62/B rather than an imported regional model.
- Storage: Confirm that the listing says 256GB.
- Condition: Make sure it is new, not renewed, used, or open-box.
- Seller and fulfillment: Review who sells and ships the phone.
- Warranty: Look for Sony’s U.S. warranty rather than an unclear seller warranty.
- Returns: Check the actual return window and exclusions.
- Accessories: Confirm what is included in the box.
The Best Buy page establishes the historical product identity, not current inventory or a current August 2026 discount. Availability, seller, and price can change.
What made the Xperia 1 V unusual
The Xperia 1 V was a specialist flagship rather than a conventional mainstream phone. Its appeal came from features that many newer phones still do not combine:

Sony’s specifications document lists the 120Hz display behavior, 240Hz motion-blur reduction and touch scanning, 256GB UFS storage, ZEISS-calibrated lenses, autofocus and tracking features, and hybrid zoom specifications. The camera hardware and manual controls were especially relevant to buyers who wanted a more camera-like workflow. They do not, by themselves, prove that the Xperia 1 V produced better automatic photos than newer phones with more aggressive computational photography.
What about the LinkBuds bundle?
PhoneArena also reported a version bundled with Sony LinkBuds receiving a separate $255 discount. The available deal information does not establish the bundle’s exact final checkout price, so it would be misleading to calculate one or describe the full $255 as a discount on the phone itself.

The bundle made sense only for buyers who genuinely wanted the earbuds. Anyone who would not otherwise buy LinkBuds should compare the phone-only price instead. Sony’s original preorder LinkBuds promotion was a separate launch offer and should not be confused with the November 2023 Black Friday pricing. Who the $1,199.99 price suited
The discount was meaningful, but the phone still cost more than $1,000. It was most defensible for buyers who specifically valued:
- Manual photography and video controls.
- Expandable storage for photos, video, or music.
- A wired headphone connection.
- The narrow 21:9 display format.
- An unlocked purchase without carrier financing.
- Sony’s imaging applications and camera-focused design.
For this audience, the unusual features could justify paying more than the specifications alone suggested. A buyer who did not need those features, however, had less reason to choose an aging 2023 flagship at $1,199.99.

Who should have skipped it
- Mainstream point-and-shoot camera shoppers: The Xperia’s manual tools require more involvement and its hardware specifications do not guarantee superior automatic results.
- Buyers prioritizing long-term support: The phone’s age and software-support outlook should be weighed against newer competitors before paying flagship money.
- Carrier-support-dependent customers: Factory unlocked does not mean universal compatibility in every circumstance.
- Shoppers expecting a complete accessory kit: Best Buy review content includes complaints about the absence of a charger and cable. Treat that as review evidence rather than a universal packaging statement, and budget for accessories if necessary. Read the Best Buy customer reviews.
- Anyone seeking the newest platform: A $200 reduction does not remove the fact that the device launched in 2023.
Carrier compatibility: verify the exact model
Best Buy described the official unlocked model as compatible with major U.S. carriers. That is more useful than an unconditional claim that it works with every carrier. Actual service can depend on LTE and 5G bands, carrier certification, VoLTE provisioning, location, the regional model, and future network changes.
Before purchase, provide your carrier with the exact model number—XQDQ62/B—and confirm compatibility, especially if you use an MVNO or are considering an imported listing. An unlocked phone can still lack the bands or certification required by a particular network.

- Start with the real price: $1,199.99 was still a premium-phone price, not a budget bargain.
- Account for the phone’s age: By the time of the deal, the Xperia 1 V had launched earlier in 2023. Compare it with newer phones available at the time rather than relying on its original MSRP.
- Price the specialist features: microSD support, a headphone jack, manual controls, and the 21:9 screen were the reasons to consider it.
- Separate bundle value: The LinkBuds promotion helped only if the buyer wanted the earbuds.
- Include ownership costs: A missing charger or cable, limited case selection, and uncertain availability could add expense.
- Protect against listing risk: Verify the U.S. model, warranty, condition, seller, return policy, and network support.
Bottom line
The Xperia 1 V’s Black Friday 2023 price was a substantial $200 reduction, and it was the lowest price reported by the deal publisher at that time. But the offer is expired, and $1,199.99 was not an automatic bargain for everyone. It made the most sense for photography enthusiasts and buyers who specifically wanted expandable storage, wired audio, Sony’s pro camera controls, and the 21:9 display. For general shoppers, the phone’s age and premium price weakened the value.
