Price tracker PSPrices reported in March 2026 that it had found experimental offer identifiers in PlayStation Store data and observed differing offers across games and regions. Sony had not publicly confirmed or explained the reported game-price test in the sources reviewed.
What has been reported about PlayStation game prices?
PSPrices said its monitoring of PlayStation Store API responses found offers tagged with the identifiers IPT_PILOT, IPT_OPR_TESTING and IPT_LTM. The tracker described offers as being shown to selected user segments and characterized the activity as controlled A/B testing. That is PSPrices’ interpretation of store data, not a public explanation from Sony.

In a March 2026 report, PSPrices said the activity had begun in November 2025 and grown from 50 games in 30 regions to more than 190 games in over 70 regions. Its reported US set included 189 games, with 104 in the US-only IPT_LTM program. These are the tracker’s observations as of March 2026, not a verified count for October 2026 or a live list of offers. What prices did the tracker observe?
PSPrices cited examples of offers below the listed regular price. The figures below are reported examples, not prices guaranteed to every account; the tracker reported the German and US offers in March 2026.

PSPrices described the cited US Helldivers 2 offer as a discount of up to 27.8%, and the cited European examples as discounts of up to 17.6%. Those percentages apply to the tracker’s examples, not to all games or users.
Does this mean some players are being charged more?
The reports establish that different offers or displayed prices were observed; they do not establish that a representative share of players paid more overall. PSPrices’ March 2026 correction is important here: it said an earlier interpretation of a $29.99 experimental Grand Theft Auto V price as an increase was wrong. The tracker said the PS5 retail price was $39.99 and that both experimental offers it had cited, $26.99 and $29.99, were discounts. It described IPT_LTM as testing different discount levels and said prices in its table were below standard retail.

Other outlets described isolated differences between logged-out and logged-in views. Push Square reported an Assassin’s Creed Unity page displaying £3.74 while logged out and £9.99 after login, as well as a different logged-in price for The Last of Us Part II Remastered. TechRadar’s September 2026 follow-up relayed Canadian users’ examples involving Star Wars games, while also noting US users with and without PS Plus who saw the same offers. These observations do not show that logging in caused a price change, identify the rule used to select accounts, or prove that the differences apply broadly. Why might two PlayStation Store prices look different?
A price comparison is meaningful only when the key details match. A difference between two screenshots could reflect different games or editions, currencies, dates, sale periods, account states or offer segments. The available reports do not establish which personal data or account attributes, if any, determine selection for the reported offers.

- Compare the same game and edition in the same territory and currency.
- Check when each price was recorded; Store offers can differ over time.
- Record whether each view was logged in, and whether a reported subscription status or offer segment is relevant.
- Identify the baseline: regular retail price, a sale price, or a logged-out listing are not interchangeable.
A logged-in versus logged-out discrepancy is an observation, not proof of its cause. No population-wide study or representative estimate of the consumer impact was identified in the sources reviewed.

Sony also announced recommended retail price increases for PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal on March 27, 2026, effective April 2 in listed territories. Those were hardware price changes, distinct from reports about game offers in the Store. Sony’s March 27, 2026 hardware pricing announcement
No on-record statement from a named Sony representative confirming or explaining the reported game-price experiment was found in the sources reviewed. That limits what can be concluded about Sony’s intent, the selection criteria or the program’s status now.
