Sol Kerzner Net Worth: What the $600 Million Estimate Means

Celebrity Net Worth put Sol Kerzner’s net worth at $600 million at his death in 2020, but the figure is an estimate—not a verified estate valuation or the value of Kerzner International.

Celebrity Net Worth estimated Sol Kerzner’s net worth at $600 million when he died in 2020. That is a secondary estimate, not a published estate valuation: the site does not disclose a calculation in the reviewed material, and no probate inventory or verified personal balance sheet is cited. It should not be confused with the approximately $3.6 billion value of a proposed 2006 acquisition of Kerzner International, which was a company transaction figure that included debt.

What was Sol Kerzner’s net worth?

The clearest located figure is $600 million at the time of his death in 2020, as reported by Celebrity Net Worth on a page published in 2022 (Celebrity Net Worth). Treat it as an attributed estimate, not a confirmed measure of what his estate was worth. The reviewed page provides no transparent method or primary personal financial records to verify the amount.

Available evidence does not establish a precise estate value. In particular, the reviewed sources do not provide a probate valuation, estate inventory, audited personal balance sheet, or primary calculation supporting the $600 million estimate.

Why the $3.6 billion figure is not his personal net worth

In 2006, Kerzner and his son Butch were leading an investor group proposing to acquire Kerzner International for $76 per ordinary share. The company’s SEC-filed announcement put the proposed acquisition’s aggregate value at approximately $3.6 billion, including $599 million in net debt as of December 31, 2005 (Kerzner International’s 2006 announcement filed with the SEC).

That figure describes the proposed company transaction, not Sol Kerzner’s personal wealth. The same announcement quoted Butch Kerzner saying that his and his father’s combined ownership interest in the company would rise to about 25% if the transaction were completed. It does not say that Sol alone owned that share or that the business’s transaction value belonged to him personally.

How Kerzner built his business career

Kerzner’s career was rooted in hotel and resort development. A 2005 Kerzner International proxy statement filed with the SEC describes him as the developer of Sun City, credits him with developing 21 hotels, and identifies him as founder of Southern Sun Hotels and Sun International South Africa (Kerzner International 2005 proxy statement). It also says he had served as the company’s chairman since 1993.

The proxy reported that WLG and its affiliates held approximately 12.5% of Kerzner International’s ordinary shares as of that document’s record date. That is a historical corporate ownership disclosure; it does not establish that the full stake was Kerzner’s personal property or provide a basis for calculating his net worth.

What Kerzner International’s brands tell us—and what they do not

Kerzner International’s current corporate site describes the company as a developer and operator of luxury resorts and private homes, and lists brands including Atlantis and One&Only (Kerzner International). This gives context for the company’s business today. It does not show what Kerzner personally owned when he died or verify the value of his estate.
