SoftBank and Prosus Sat Out Meesho’s 2025 IPO Share Sale

Meesho’s 2025 IPO combined ₹42.5 billion in fresh capital with ₹11.71204 billion in existing-shareholder sales. SoftBank and Prosus did not sell in that offer, but that alone does not establish their later holdings.

SoftBank and Prosus did not sell shares in Meesho’s December 2025 IPO, according to contemporaneous reporting. The final offer priced at ₹111 per share and raised ₹54.21204 billion in total: ₹42.5 billion for Meesho through new shares and ₹11.71204 billion for existing shareholders through an offer for sale. The reported “$606 million” was an approximate contemporaneous conversion, not the final exchange document’s rupee-denominated total.

What “SoftBank stays in” meant

On November 28, 2025, TechCrunch reported that SoftBank and Prosus would not sell shares in Meesho’s planned IPO. That meant they were not participating in the offer-for-sale portion of that particular offering. It did not establish that either investor had committed to a lock-up, that either still held the same stake after listing, or why either chose not to sell. The contemporaneous headline described the planned IPO as approximately $606 million and reported a planned price range of ₹105 to ₹111 per share. TechCrunch’s November 28 report is the source for that planned range and the backers’ decision.

What Meesho’s final IPO offer included

The final NSE allotment notice records a price of ₹111 per share and separates new shares from shares sold by existing holders. This distinction matters: the fresh issue brought money to Meesho, while the offer for sale generated proceeds for the selling shareholders.

Part of the offer Shares Proceeds Who received the proceeds
Fresh issue 382,882,882 ₹42.5 billion Meesho
Offer for sale 105,513,839 ₹11.71204 billion Existing shareholders who sold shares
Total offer 488,396,721 ₹54.21204 billion Meesho and selling shareholders, as above

The NSE allotment notice gives the final offer terms and says trading would commence on December 10, 2025. Use the rupee totals when describing the final offer. Later reporting described the combined amount as around $596 million, underscoring that the $606 million figure in the earlier headline was an approximate conversion tied to reporting at the time, rather than a fixed dollar value for the completed transaction.

Why the decision does not answer who owns Meesho now

An investor’s decision not to sell in one IPO offer says nothing definitive about whether it continued to hold shares afterward. Ownership can change through later transactions, and a dated filing is needed to establish a holding at a particular point in time.

The NSE shareholding-pattern index displayed Meesho’s September 30, 2026 pattern, disseminated October 5, 2026, but the accessible details do not establish SoftBank’s current holding. A Meesho filing for March 31, 2026 names public shareholders including Naspers Ventures BV and Peak XV Partners Investments V, but it does not resolve SoftBank’s later position. See the NSE shareholding-pattern index and Meesho’s March 2026 pattern. Neither the IPO decision nor the March filing should be used to infer SoftBank’s September 2026 stake.

Meesho’s reported scale after listing

Meesho’s investor-relations page reports more than 274 million annual transacting users, more than 1.04 million annual transacting sellers, and 2.83 billion-plus placed orders for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. These are company-reported operating measures, not independently verified estimates. They provide dated context on reported platform activity, but do not by themselves establish profitability, valuation, or whether the shares suit a particular investor. The figures are available on Meesho’s investor-relations site.

How to read the IPO figures as an investor

  • Separate company financing from investor selling. The ₹42.5 billion fresh issue went to Meesho; the ₹11.71204 billion offer for sale went to shareholders who sold.
  • Keep the currency and date context. The final notice states rupee amounts and the ₹111 issue price. Dollar descriptions are approximate conversions and can differ by the exchange rate and reporting date.
  • Do not treat a non-sale as a forecast. The choice not to sell shares in the IPO does not establish the investor’s reason, a future holding, or a view on subsequent share performance.
  • Use the right evidence for the question. Offer documents establish issuance terms; dated shareholding filings establish reported ownership at a given filing date; operating metrics describe activity, not investment suitability.
