If you’re looking for sites like Fingerhut, compare buy now, pay later (BNPL) services such as Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sezzle, PayPal Pay Later and Zip. These U.S.-focused options work differently: retailer acceptance, repayment schedules, fees and eligibility vary, so check the specific offer before buying. This is a selection of alternatives, not a verified ranking of 12 providers.

What are alternatives to Fingerhut?

Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, Sezzle, PayPal Pay Later and Zip are BNPL services that may let eligible shoppers split a purchase into installments at participating merchants. They are not stores in the same sense as Fingerhut, and they do not share one universal set of terms. Whether a service is available depends on the merchant, the purchase and the offer presented to the shopper. [c001]

For a pay-in-four plan, a common structure is an initial payment followed by three biweekly installments. The Federal Reserve illustrates the arithmetic with a $100 purchase: “For example, a $100 purchase can be made by paying $25 at checkout and then making three biweekly installment payments of $25.” That is an example, not a guarantee that every provider or transaction uses those amounts or dates. [c004]

BNPL services to compare

The providers below appear in current comparison coverage as relevant options for U.S. shoppers. The available information does not establish a definitive ranking, or enough detail to compare every provider’s terms side by side. Confirm availability and the agreement for your specific purchase.

  • Affirm: Offers can include pay-in-four and monthly installments. Affirm states that eligible monthly plans may carry a 0–36% APR, while Affirm Pay in 4 is 0% APR. The rate and plan depend on the offer and eligibility; check the terms shown at checkout. [c002]
  • Klarna: A BNPL service named in comparisons of U.S. alternatives. Check the merchant’s checkout options and the specific repayment and fee terms before selecting it. [c001]
  • Afterpay: Another service included in comparisons. Confirm which retailers accept it and the schedule and fees that apply to your transaction. [c001]
  • Sezzle: A BNPL option cited in comparison coverage. Review the offer and repayment conditions presented for your purchase. [c003]
  • PayPal Pay Later: A payment option named in comparisons. The available plan and terms depend on the checkout offer; review those details before agreeing. [c003]
  • Zip: A service included among the alternatives. Check retailer acceptance, payment timing and applicable charges for the transaction. [c006]

How to compare a buy now, pay later offer

Compare the actual offer rather than relying on the “pay later” label. Terms can differ by provider, plan and purchase. [c002] [c003] [c006]

  • Repayment schedule: Note the amount due today, each later due date and the number of payments. Distinguish pay-in-four from a longer monthly plan.
  • Total cost: Add the initial payment and all remaining payments. For monthly financing, check the APR and total amount payable, including any applicable fees.
  • Late-payment policy: Find out whether a missed payment triggers a fee or other consequences, and what options exist if a payment date becomes difficult.
  • Merchant acceptance: Confirm the service is available at the retailer and for the specific item or transaction. Acceptance is not universal.
  • Eligibility and credit checks: Review whether the provider assesses eligibility or makes a credit inquiry, and whether repayment information may be reported to credit bureaus. These details vary.
  • Payment changes: Check whether you can reschedule a payment and what conditions apply; do not assume this is available.

Make sure the installments fit your budget

Before accepting, put the full payment calendar alongside your other bills and expenses. A small first payment does not make a purchase affordable if the later installments leave too little for essentials or existing obligations. If the schedule depends on borrowing more, delaying another bill or hoping your income arrives on time, reconsider the purchase.

How common is BNPL use?

CNBC Select attributed a Gallup poll published in April 2026 to the finding that 51% of Americans had used short-term installment plans for online purchases, including 10% who said they relied on BNPL frequently. This is a poll statistic as attributed by CNBC Select, not a Federal Reserve finding. [c005]
