What Singularity 6 announced in 2019
On August 14, 2019, PC Games Insider reported that Los Angeles-based Singularity 6 had raised $16.5 million for its first intellectual property. The report said the information came from VentureBeat. It named Andreessen Horowitz as the lead investor and London Venture Partners and FunPlus Venture as participants. It also said Chen, an Andreessen Horowitz partner, would join the studio’s board.

The report did not identify the financing as a seed round, Series A, or another formal category. It provided no valuation, financing instrument, closing terms, or allocation of the total among investors. Those details should not be inferred from the headline amount or the list of participants.
Who founded the studio and what was the game concept?
Singularity 6 was founded by Aidan Karabaich and Anthony Leung, whom the 2019 report described as former Riot Games developers. At the time, the studio characterized its first project as a multiplayer game combining simulation design and virtual community building in a high-fantasy world. It had not publicly named the game or disclosed specific gameplay details, so the 2019 announcement did not identify the project as Palia.

Leung, then described as the studio’s CEO and co-founder, framed the company’s ambition around connection and belonging. He said games could be “a path to community, friendships and a real sense of belonging.” That emphasis helps explain why the contemporary description stressed a shared world and community rather than a detailed feature list.
The first game later became Palia
Singularity 6 later revealed the project as Palia, a free-to-play fantasy life-sim adventure. In a February 16, 2022 post, the company said players would not need a subscription or upfront purchase and that monetization would focus on cosmetic content rather than core gameplay. That statement records the company’s published policy at that time.

As of October 8, 2026, Palia’s official site listed Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as platforms and described the game as free to play. Platform availability and future release plans can change; the site also listed a planned Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for the 2026 holiday period.
What happened to Singularity 6 after the funding
On July 2, 2024, Singularity 6 announced that it was joining Daybreak Game Company, a subsidiary of Enad Global 7 AB. The studio said it would continue operating independently under co-founders Anthony Leung and Aidan Karabaich, with Daybreak support, while continuing development of Palia.

Daybreak later reported that Palia had surpassed 10 million players globally. That was a milestone announced on April 21, 2026—not a live player count for October 2026. The announcement also set May 12, 2026 as the planned release date for the Royal Highlands area.

The $16.5 million figure is useful as a reported snapshot of the capital behind a newly formed game studio and its first project. It does not, by itself, show how much each investor contributed, what ownership they received, how the studio spent the funds, or what return the investment generated. The later acquisition and player milestone are separate developments and should not be treated as evidence of the original deal’s terms or investor returns.
