These are dated futures quotes—not a live spot price or the price a buyer would necessarily pay for a silver coin or bar.
What was silver trading at on October 6?
Yahoo Finance reported an opening quote of $61.39 per ounce for the December 2026 silver futures contract (symbol SI=F). At 7:14 a.m. ET, the contract was at $61.34 per ounce. The report described prices as steady following the prior day’s stock rally.
The two figures refer to different moments in the trading session. Neither should be treated as the contract’s official settlement price: the exact authoritative October 6 settlement was not established. A quote labeled simply “silver price” can also refer to spot silver, another futures month, or a retail product, so the instrument and timestamp matter.

Why the market was being watched
Yahoo Finance placed the relatively steady quote in the context of investors assessing market developments after a record-breaking stock rally. The report also mentioned Middle East oil exports, Federal Reserve expectations, corporate earnings, and investment in artificial intelligence as issues investors were monitoring. That context does not establish that any one of those developments caused silver’s price movement.
Silver’s recent swings and the outlook reported
To illustrate volatility, Yahoo Finance said silver futures had topped $113 per ounce at the beginning of January 2026 and fallen to $77 by February, a decline the outlet described as about 32%. Those figures are part of Yahoo’s account of futures prices; they should not be confused with the October 6 quote or with retail prices for physical silver.

The same report attributed expectations that silver could top $80 per ounce by the end of 2026 and potentially reach $100 by 2030 to unnamed “experts” associated with BlackRock and J.P. Morgan. It did not identify a specific analyst, forecasting model, or methodology. These are forecasts, not established future prices, and the figures should not be read as formal institutional targets without more specific attribution.

A futures quote is for a contract tied to a specified delivery month; it is not a retail offer for a particular piece of bullion. A coin or bar’s price depends on the product and seller, including its weight, purity, premium over the underlying market price, and resale terms. Yahoo Finance noted that physical silver products may be a more accessible entry point for some buyers than gold, but the report did not establish a price, seller, or suitability for any specific product.

For a useful price chart or comparison, check whether the data is spot silver, the December futures contract, or a retail listing, and note whether the value is an opening, intraday, or settlement quote. The secondary historical results available from Investing.com showed inconsistent October 6 values across contract identifiers, so they do not confirm Yahoo Finance’s December-contract opening quote.
