Side Piece is the New York-style pizza option, while Tekka Bar focuses on Japanese hand rolls and sake.
What happened to the 2026 opening plans?
Crown’s November 2025 announcement described both venues as Australian-first concepts planned for the Urban Food District. Crown Resorts later announced that the district opened on 14 February 2026, naming Side Piece Pizza and Tekka Bar among the international concepts making their Australian debut. They are no longer upcoming openings.

How do the two venues differ?

These are different dining formats rather than direct substitutes. For a quick choice, Side Piece is the pizza-focused option and has the later listed Friday and Saturday close; Tekka Bar pairs hand rolls with sake and has split lunch and dinner hours on most weekdays and Sunday.

Where are they, and what should visitors check?
Urban Food District is at Crown Perth in Burswood, opposite Crown Theatre. Crown presents the precinct as a social dining destination with multiple food concepts and bars. See Crown Perth’s Urban Food District page for current venue information.
- Confirm hours before going: Crown says hours are subject to change. Tekka Bar’s split weekday and Sunday schedule may require planning around its afternoon closure.
- Check surcharges: Side Piece lists a 10% Saturday surcharge, 15% Sunday surcharge, 20% public-holiday surcharge and 1.15% credit-card surcharge. Tekka Bar lists weekend and public-holiday surcharges; its page does not specify rates in the details provided here.
- Ask about dietary needs: Side Piece says it tries to accommodate dietary requests but cannot guarantee meals are allergy-free because of possible traces in the working environment and supplied ingredients. Tekka Bar likewise says it cannot guarantee allergy-free meals.
- Check age conditions: Crown’s current entry terms say guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and are welcome until 8pm under the stated supervision conditions.

PerthNow attributed this description of Side Piece Pizza to Clique Hospitality founder and CEO Andy Masi: “gives local pizza lovers a new opportunity to enjoy authentic, New York city-style slices without the long flight.” The quote reflects the announcement; Crown’s current venue page is the better source for present-day hours and conditions.
