Should You Add Coursera, Udacity, or DataCamp Training to Your Resume?

Include online training when it supports the target role and strengthens your evidence of relevant skills. List the exact credential and completion status, then pair it with a project when possible.

Usually, yes—if the training is relevant to the specific job, helps fill a real skill gap, and earns its space on your resume. List the credential by its actual title and status; don’t imply that a course-completion document is a degree, license, or professional certification. When possible, pair it with a project or other evidence showing what you can do.

When an online course belongs on your resume

Judge each course against the opening you’re applying for, not by the platform’s name. Include it when it supports a required or useful skill, provides credible evidence of learning, or helps demonstrate preparation when you have limited directly relevant experience. Coursera’s resume guide likewise recommends including relevant credentials and warns that unrelated ones can clutter a resume.

  • Does the job description ask for the skill or qualification? If so, a relevant course may help show preparation, though it does not automatically satisfy a requirement for a particular license or qualification.
  • Can you substantiate the skill? A project, assessment, work sample, or work experience makes the claim more meaningful than a course title alone.
  • What did you actually earn? Use the platform’s precise label—such as a course certificate or statement of accomplishment—rather than upgrading it to a professional certification.
  • Is it worth the space? Keep it if it strengthens this application. Remove it if it is unrelated, duplicates stronger evidence, or pushes more important experience off the page.

For several courses, keep the ones with the clearest job match, strongest evidence of applied skill, and most useful credential. Recency can matter for fast-changing tools, but it is a practical judgment—not a universal rule that newer always means better.

How to list Coursera, Udacity, or DataCamp training

Use the official course or credential title, provider or issuing organization, and completion date. Add a short list of relevant skills only when those skills fit the role. Include an expiration date only if the credential actually expires. A dedicated Certifications section can suit relevant credentials; Education or a Training section may fit coursework better. There is no single required section for every online course.

Example for completed training:

[Official course or credential title] — [provider or issuing organization], [completion date]
Relevant skills: [specific skills relevant to the role]

For unfinished training, label it plainly:

[Official title] — [provider], In progress

Coursera’s newer resume guide favors a dedicated certification section for relevant credentials, while its Coursera-specific resume article discusses Education as a typical placement, with exceptions depending on career direction. Choose the section that makes the item easy to find without misrepresenting what it is.

What each platform’s credential means

Platform What to call it What the platform says about earning or sharing it
Coursera Use the exact course or credential title; Coursera describes its Course Certificate as an official credential confirming successful course completion. Use the credential’s own completion status and details. A Course Certificate alone should not be presented as a degree or professional license.
Udacity Use the exact graduation certificate or course title shown for your program. Udacity says paid-course learners receive a shareable graduation certificate after completing required components, which can include project work. Its FAQ says free courses do not offer certificates.
DataCamp Use the exact course or track title and call the document a statement of accomplishment where applicable. DataCamp says completers can download or share statements of accomplishment for courses or tracks. Projects can be shared or downloaded separately; projects do not receive statements of accomplishment.

Credential names and requirements differ by course and platform. Check the specific credential page and the job posting before saying that a qualification is required or recognized. Coursera distinguishes a Course Certificate from a professional certification issued by a recognized certifying body; don’t assume the two are interchangeable.

Make the credential more convincing with applied evidence

A course title tells an employer what you studied; a relevant work sample can show how you used it. If you completed a project, list it separately in a Projects section when it supports the job. Briefly identify the problem or context, tools and methods, and a concrete result only if it is real and verifiable. Link to a portfolio or GitHub repository when appropriate and accessible.

DataCamp says many projects can be shared in DataCamp Workspace or downloaded as notebooks for an external portfolio. Keep the distinction clear: a project is evidence of work, not a certificate or statement of accomplishment.

What an online certificate cannot promise

A course credential can support an application, but it does not by itself establish that an employer will recognize it, that you will pass an applicant-tracking system, or that you will get a job or higher salary. Udacity says it does not guarantee employment after course completion. Its separate career-services FAQ describes outcomes for certain technical-program learners who engage with those services, but that is not a promise for every learner or evidence that a resume credential alone causes an employment outcome.

Broad labor-market figures about people with certifications or licenses should not be treated as evidence about Coursera, Udacity, or DataCamp course certificates specifically. They do not isolate online-course credentials or show that earning one caused a wage or employment outcome.
