Using those surfaced totals, United’s estimate is €96.30 million higher. Dividing €110.05 million by €13.75 million gives approximately 8.0, so United’s squad estimate is about eight times Wednesday’s. The totals are Transfermarkt-published estimates, not independently verified transaction prices.
What “market value” means in this comparison
Here, “market value” means Transfermarkt’s aggregate estimate for the players in each club’s squad. It is not the price to buy either club, its revenue, the accounting value of its assets, or a promise that players would be sold for those amounts.
Sheffield United’s company accounts explain the difference between accounting carrying values and player market values: “the net book amount of player registrations will not reflect, nor is it intended to, the current market value of these players nor does it take any account of players developed through the company’s youth system.” This statement concerns accounting book values; it does not certify Transfermarkt’s estimates.

Why the comparison needs a date and context
Transfermarkt’s surfaced historical listings show Sheffield United at €115.75 million on 1 June 2026 and €117.05 million on 1 July 2026; the surfaced July detailed page lists €110.05 million as the then-current figure. That movement illustrates why a squad-value comparison should be dated rather than treated as a permanent ranking. Player assessments and squad membership can change.
The surfaced 2026/27 context lists Wednesday in League One and United in the Championship. This is therefore not a comparison between two squads in the same division. The available figures do not establish how much of the gap is caused by division, squad composition, or other factors.
