That outcome is separate from the unverified headline claim that a Sky pundit said, “I don’t think Chansiri’s going to change.” The speaker and original context for that wording have not been established, so it should not be treated as a confirmed quotation or prediction.
What happened to the Sheffield Wednesday takeover?
The club entered administration on 24 October 2025. Sky Sports reported that Begbies Traynor had taken control and could sell the club and stadium together. Administrator Paul Stanley discussed the situation and sale process with Sky Sports News that day.

The eventual sale followed a change in prospective buyers. A consortium led by James Bord withdrew its bid in February 2026, but other interested parties remained in contact with the administrators, Sky Sports reported. Arise Capital Partners later completed its purchase, announced on 2 May 2026, according to the BBC.

Was the Sky pundit quotation verified?
No. The exact headline did not surface in the permitted searches, and the original article, its date and the identity of the “Sky pundit” remain unverified. The wording “I don’t think Chansiri’s going to change” therefore cannot responsibly be attributed to a named person or presented as a confirmed direct quote.

It is also important not to confuse a reported prediction with the later outcome. Whatever the unidentified speaker meant at the time, Chansiri’s ownership did end when Arise Capital Partners bought the club in May 2026.

The BBC reported that Chansiri received a three-year ban from owning or directing an English Football League club following financial breaches. This is a separate development from the sale itself: the takeover changed the club’s ownership, while the ban restricted Chansiri’s future involvement with EFL clubs.
Why administration mattered
Administration placed the club under the control of appointed administrators, who could pursue a sale rather than leave ownership with Chansiri. In its 24 October 2025 report, Sky Sports said the club and stadium could be sold together. The completed deal came months later, after the Bord-led bid had fallen away and another buyer emerged.
After the sale, David Kogan, chair of the Independent Football Regulator, welcomed the deal, saying it was good news for the club, its community and fans who had endured a long period of uncertainty, as reported by the BBC.
