What happened to Mike Ashley’s reported bid?
BBC Sport reported Ashley as one of the bidders during Sheffield Wednesday’s sale process. That is historical context, not evidence of a takeover still being negotiated: the completed transaction was with Arise Capital Partners LLC. The available announcements do not establish the value or terms of Ashley’s bid, or provide a full comparison of the bidders.

On 2 May 2026, the EFL announced that the joint administrators had formally agreed to transfer the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. What did the EFL decide about points and player spending?
The EFL said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction when Wednesday exited administration. That decision was separate from the automatic 12-point deduction the league had announced when the club entered administration in 2025.

The EFL also said Wednesday would be subject to a budget restriction for the next two seasons. Player registrations during that period must comply with an agreed business plan. Then-EFL chief executive Trevor Birch described the period as “The recent period leading up to and following Administration has been an extremely testing time for the Club, and all associated with Sheffield Wednesday, particularly the players, coaching staff, club employees and supporters.”
