The club announced the sale, BBC Sport reported completion on 2 May 2026, and the administrators’ adviser confirmed it on 5 May. The suggestion that a Textor breakthrough is close is therefore superseded by the completed Arise deal.
Is John Textor taking over Sheffield Wednesday?
The completion sources identify Arise Capital Partners LLC as Sheffield Wednesday’s buyer. They do not identify John Textor as the purchaser. The club’s announcement and BBC Sport’s report named Arise; BTG Advisory, the administrators’ professional adviser, later published a notice confirming the sale. BBC Sport reported the completed takeover on 2 May 2026, and BTG Advisory published its completion notice on 5 May 2026.
Companies House records Textor’s resignation as a director of Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited on 27 January 2026. That corporate record does not establish that he had a role in a Sheffield Wednesday bid, and it should not be treated as evidence that he was the club’s buyer.
How the sale reached completion

Arise became preferred bidder in March 2026
On 10 March 2026, the joint administrators said Arise Capital Partners had been selected as preferred bidder after the previous preferred bidder withdrew. They identified Arise members as David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The administrators said Arise had provided a substantial deposit, evidence of funds and entered an exclusivity agreement. At that point, completion remained subject to the regulatory process.
David Storch said in the preferred-bidder announcement: “We are thrilled and excited to take this important step toward stewardship of this historic football club.” The statement described a step toward a possible purchase, not completed ownership.

The 25p-in-the-pound figure was not a final distribution
In its 10 March 2026 update, the administrators said Arise’s offer was below the amount required to pay creditors 25p in the pound. They described it as the strongest proposal received in the renewed bidding process and the best available outcome at that time. That was a statement about the offer during the sale process, not a report of the final amount creditors received.

Companies House later listed an administrator’s progress report filed on 2 June 2026 and a result of meeting of creditors filed on 16 July 2026. Those filing entries alone do not establish the eventual creditor distribution.
BBC Sport reported no 15-point deduction
BBC Sport reported that the EFL confirmed the takeover and would not impose a 15-point deduction following Sheffield Wednesday’s exit from administration. This is the outcome as reported by BBC Sport; the cited source is not a direct EFL statement.
