- 24 October 2025: The EFL said it had received formal notice that Dejphon Chansiri had taken steps to appoint administrators to Sheffield Wednesday and the company that owns Hillsborough. Who bid for Sheffield Wednesday, and who bought the club?
BBC Sport reported that Storch had made a bid and that Ashley was among the competing parties. The EFL’s later announcement named Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by David Storch with Michael Storch and Tom Costin, as the buyer. BTG then confirmed completion. The available reporting and official notices do not establish a complete list of bidders or a full chronology of offers.
Neither the bid amounts nor their financing and terms are established in the cited reporting and announcements. That means the documented outcome identifies the successful consortium, but does not support a reliable financial comparison of its offer with Ashley’s or any other bid.
Why the 12-point and 15-point deductions are different
The two figures relate to separate stages. The EFL said a 12-point deduction was triggered when the club entered administration in October 2025. In May 2026, it said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction on exit from administration. The latter was a decision not to apply an additional penalty; it did not erase the original 12-point deduction.

What the sale means for the club’s finances and player registrations
The EFL said the club would be subject to a budget restriction for two seasons and that new player registrations must comply with an agreed business plan. These are operating conditions attached to the league’s treatment of the sale. The cited EFL announcement does not specify the restriction’s financial limit, so a precise spending ceiling cannot be stated from that announcement.
