Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete, not still pending. The EFL confirmed on 2 May 2026 that the club’s administrators had transferred its assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC and that Wednesday had exited administration. Arise is led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The 15-point deduction reported as a pre-completion risk was not imposed, although EFL budget restrictions remain in place for two seasons.

What happened to the takeover bid?

The headline about a newly launched takeover bid is now out of date. The process shifted from a failed offer to a completed sale:

  1. 25 February 2026: The consortium led by James Bord withdrew its proposed £47.8 million takeover. The administrators said they would immediately re-engage with other interested bidders on an expedited timetable. BBC Sport reported the withdrawal.
  2. 10 March 2026: The administrators selected Arise Capital Partners LLC as preferred bidder. The club said the consortium comprised David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin, and had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds. An exclusivity agreement required Arise to fund trading losses after eight weeks if the sale had not completed. Sheffield Wednesday’s announcement set out those terms.
  3. 1–2 May 2026: BBC Sport reported that final paperwork was completed on 1 May and the announcement followed on 2 May. The EFL confirmed the transfer of the club’s assets to Arise and Wednesday’s exit from administration. The EFL’s statement confirmed completion.

BBC Sport reported Arise’s bid at £20 million before completion; that was reported bid value, not a confirmed final purchase price. BBC Sport’s pre-completion report also covered the potential points deduction.

Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?

Arise Capital Partners LLC acquired the club’s assets through the administration process. The consortium is led by David Storch, with Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL announcement confirms the asset transfer and administration exit; it does not describe a separate share sale. EFL confirmation and BBC Sport’s completion report identify the buyer and its members.

Will Sheffield Wednesday receive a 15-point deduction?

No. Before the sale completed, BBC Sport reported that the EFL had told the preferred bidder a 15-point deduction the following season could apply if creditor-repayment conditions were not met. The reported threshold was 25p in the pound. On 2 May, the EFL said it would not impose the deduction after considering proposals made to former owner Dejphon Chansiri by the administrators and new ownership. The threatened sanction was therefore not the final outcome. BBC Sport’s report describes the earlier risk; the EFL statement records the final decision.

What restrictions remain after the sale?

The club remains subject to EFL budget restrictions for the next two seasons. New player registrations are permitted only in line with a business plan agreed jointly by Arise and the EFL. The EFL’s statement sets out those conditions; it does not establish whether they have changed since 2 May 2026. Read the EFL’s conditions.
