Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover race is over: Arise Capital Partners LLC completed its purchase of the club in May 2026. The proposed James Bord-led deal collapsed in February, and the further 15-point deduction initially attached to Arise’s proposed transaction was waived when the sale completed. Sheffield Wednesday had already lost 18 points during the 2025–26 season.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC bought Sheffield Wednesday, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership. The club’s administrators selected Arise as preferred bidder on 10–11 March 2026. The consortium was led by David Storch and included Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The administrators’ adviser, BTG, announced completion on 5 May. BTG’s completion notice and BBC Sport’s reporting on the sale document the outcome.
David Storch said in BTG’s completion notice: “Sheffield Wednesday deserves stability, ambition and a clear direction. That is what we are here to deliver.” Those words express the new owners’ stated intentions; they do not establish that stability or other promised outcomes have already been achieved. What happened to the Bord-led takeover?
Sheffield Wednesday entered administration in October 2025, and administrators selected a consortium led by James Bord as preferred bidder in December. That proposed £47.8 million takeover did not complete: the consortium withdrew on 25 February 2026.

BBC reported that the group said the club’s history of mishandling and underinvestment meant the bid could no longer be justified. The consortium also believed the club’s valuation had fallen and said it could not renegotiate under its agreement. Administrators said other parties from the sale process remained interested and that they would re-engage them on an expedited timetable. BBC Sport’s account of the withdrawal and subsequent sale process gives the details.
Was Sheffield Wednesday given a 15-point deduction?
No. The EFL initially told Arise, as preferred bidder, that the club would face a further 15-point deduction in League One the following season. The issue concerned the EFL’s insolvency policy and creditor repayments: BBC reported that the proposed offer did not meet the stated threshold of 25p per pound. BBC Sport’s reporting on the proposed penalty explains the dispute.

At completion, BTG said the EFL Board had exercised its discretion not to impose that additional deduction after Wednesday exited administration. BTG said the club would start the upcoming season on zero points. The threatened 15-point penalty was therefore not the final outcome. BTG’s completion notice records the decision.
How many points had Wednesday already lost?
Sheffield Wednesday had already been deducted 18 points during the 2025–26 season: 12 points for entering administration and a further six for financial breaches, according to BBC Sport. Those penalties belong to the preceding season and are separate from the additional deduction that was threatened under the proposed Arise terms. BBC Sport’s report on the deductions and insolvency-policy threshold sets out the figures.

What restrictions were reported after the sale?
BBC reported at the time of completion that Wednesday would remain under budget restrictions for two seasons as a condition of continuing EFL membership, while still being allowed to sign players. That was the condition reported then; subsequent changes are not established here. BBC Sport’s sale coverage describes the reported restrictions.
