As of August 18, 2026, the receipt-rewards app remains available on Google Play, received a visible update on July 7, 2026, and maintains an active support center. What changed is the company behind it and the way rewards work: CoinOut is now a wholly owned business of Circana, and its current app uses Coins, membership levels, receipt limits and redemption thresholds rather than the simpler pitch-era description many viewers remember.
What happened to CoinOut after Shark Tank?
Founder Jeffrey Witten pitched CoinOut on Shark Tank in 2018. The strongest currently available profile confirms the appearance and the company’s later development, but it does not establish enough primary evidence to state the exact televised valuation, every offer, or whether a Shark’s on-camera deal ultimately closed. Those questions should not be confused with what happened next: CoinOut continued operating and later became part of a larger consumer-data company.
CoinOut’s current legal terms identify Coin Out Inc. as a wholly owned company of Circana, LLC. Secondary reporting and a Columbia University alumni profile place the acquisition in March 2021, when the company then known as IRI acquired CoinOut. The purchase price was not disclosed in the sources available here. CoinOut’s terms and the Columbia Magazine profile are the clearest sources for the ownership history.
Circana is the company formerly associated with IRI. In practical terms, CoinOut is no longer an independent founder-led startup in the way it was presented on television. It operates as a receipt-rewards and shopping-information product within a larger corporate group.

Is the CoinOut app still available?
Yes. The Google Play listing is live and showed an update dated July 7, 2026 when checked for this article. It listed more than 1 million downloads, about 62,000 reviews and a 4.2-star rating at that time; marketplace figures can change. An Apple App Store listing also exists, and CoinOut’s support center continues to publish help articles.
Those signals establish current availability, not that every user will have the same features. CoinOut says earning methods, retailer connections, promotions, levels and redemption choices can change, and the published rules are version-specific.
How CoinOut works now
Paper receipts
You photograph eligible paper receipts in the app. Under the current terms and Official Rules, a receipt generally must be submitted within 14 calendar days of purchase, be in English and U.S. dollars, show the retailer, date and time, itemized purchase information, prices and total, and represent a personal or household purchase. Each receipt may be submitted only once. The rules limit submissions to five receipts from the same retailer on the same day within a 24-hour period.

Electronic receipts and connected accounts
CoinOut also supports eligible retailer or online accounts and connected email receipts. Available partners and connection methods are controlled in the app and may change. CoinOut says in its information-protection help article that login information does not leave the device when an account is connected and that unrelated, non-receipt emails are not used for its stated receipt-processing purpose. Those are CoinOut’s representations, not an independent guarantee.
Surveys, games and promotions
The rules also allow surveys, sweepstakes, contests, badges, game plays and other promotions. Availability, qualifying actions and limits can vary, so an offer shown in one account or at one time may not be permanent.
Who can participate?
The rewards program is limited to eligible legal residents of the United States and the District of Columbia who meet the stated age requirement. The terms require a real phone number and exclude VOIP numbers. Business purchases are not eligible under the receipt rules.

Current CoinOut levels and redemption thresholds
The following schedule is from CoinOut’s rules last updated August 11, 2025 and applies to the specified newer Android and iOS app versions. It is not a promise that the in-app catalog will remain unchanged.

New accounts start at Bronze. Bronze users do not qualify for redemption under the listed rules; the first stated redemption is $3 at Silver and 3,000 Coins. CoinOut may offer digital gift cards and selected mobile-payment options, but the exact choices depend on level, balance and the catalog displayed in the app. Do not treat Coins as a fixed cash amount per receipt: current rules use level-based Coins and thresholds rather than a universal cents-per-receipt payment.

Receipt and account rules that can cost you rewards
- Submit on time: A receipt submitted after 14 days may be rejected.
- Make the image readable: Blurry, cropped, incomplete or poorly lit images can fail validation.
- Do not duplicate: The same receipt cannot be submitted more than once.
- Watch retailer limits: The stated cap is five receipts from one retailer on one day within 24 hours.
- Keep the account active: CoinOut’s account-activity help page describes a warning giving users seven days to submit at least one valid paper receipt. The formal terms separately say rewards become non-redeemable after no valid paper receipt is submitted for a continuous 90-day period.
- Redeem before deleting: The terms warn that requesting deletion of account data may also delete the associated rewards balance.
The seven-day message is an earlier warning or maintenance step; the 90-day period is the formal expiration condition in the rules. The current notice shown inside your account controls the immediate user experience, and simply connecting an account or playing a game should not be assumed to satisfy the valid-paper-receipt requirement.

CoinOut’s model depends on purchase information. You may submit receipt images and connect retailer or email accounts, while the company and its corporate owner receive shopping-related data for the services and business purposes described in their policies. CoinOut’s security page describes its stated security practices. Google Play’s developer disclosure says the app may collect personal, financial and other data categories, uses encryption in transit and offers a data-deletion request option.
That does not establish that the app is unsafe, but it does mean the rewards are not free in an information sense. Review the current privacy policy before connecting an inbox or retailer account, and avoid linking an account whose contents you are not comfortable allowing the service to process.

Is CoinOut worth using?
It may fit you if
- You already keep paper receipts and can submit them regularly.
- You want broad receipt coverage rather than only product-specific coupons.
- You are comfortable exchanging shopping data for small rewards.
- Gift cards or the payment options shown in the app are useful to you.
- You can meet the activity rules and submit receipts within the deadline.
It may be a poor fit if
- You expect meaningful income instead of modest supplemental rewards.
- You do not want to connect email or retailer accounts.
- You rarely receive paper receipts or will forget to upload them.
- You dislike tiered systems that lock redemption behind levels.
- You want the highest possible value from every receipt without checking changing limits and promotions.
CoinOut is best viewed as a small-reward receipt tracker, not a dependable income source. Its broad submission model can be convenient, but Bronze restrictions, receipt caps, data considerations and inactivity rules make the economics less straightforward than older articles suggest.
CoinOut alternatives
Other apps serve overlapping but different habits. Fetch emphasizes receipt rewards and brand promotions. Ibotta is more retailer- and offer-driven, so it generally suits shoppers willing to activate deals before buying. Receipt Hog and ReceiptPal target similar receipt-upload and survey behavior. Their current reward rates, limits and privacy terms should be checked directly before choosing one; no current comparison of those figures is established here.
Bottom line
CoinOut did not disappear after Shark Tank. It remains available, but it has evolved into a Circana-owned receipt-rewards and consumer-shopping-data platform. The current experience is governed by Coins, levels, receipt deadlines, submission limits and account-activity requirements. It can make sense for people who already scan receipts and accept the data trade-off; it is unlikely to justify use if you want substantial income, unlimited submissions or a simple fixed payment for every receipt.
