She later left the position on February 12, 2026; the DOJ now lists her as a former assistant attorney general whose service ran from 2025 to 2026.
What the Senate confirmed
Slater’s confirmation put her in charge of the DOJ division responsible for enforcing federal antitrust laws. That work can affect mergers and competition in industries such as technology, agriculture and health care, issues highlighted by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley in his support for her nomination.
Grassley said the Judiciary Committee advanced Slater’s nomination by a 20–2 vote. That was the committee vote, not the Senate’s confirmation tally; a Senate floor vote count is not established by the cited sources.
Slater’s antitrust and policy experience
Grassley said Slater practiced antitrust law in private practice before spending a decade at the Federal Trade Commission handling antitrust investigations and litigation. The DOJ profile also records policy roles in government and work in the private sector.
#1 Best Overall
- She served as an economic-policy adviser to then-Senator JD Vance.
- During the first Trump administration, she served on the National Economic Council with technology and telecommunications policy responsibilities.
- Her listed private-sector experience includes Freshfields, Fox Corporation and Roku.
What senators said about the nomination
Grassley supported the nomination
In remarks on March 11, 2025, Grassley framed antitrust enforcement as relevant to farmers, consumers and technology users. He said: “Family farmers and independent producers deserve fair prices for their products. Seniors deserve affordable prescription drugs. Children deserve to be safe from predatory behavior on dominant tech platforms.” These were Grassley’s arguments for the nomination, not findings about enforcement outcomes.
Murphy opposed confirmation
On March 12, 2025, Senator Chris Murphy said he voted against Slater’s confirmation. He argued that antitrust enforcement could be misused for political purposes and said he hoped Slater would build on the agenda of former Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter. Those statements reflect Murphy’s political concerns and expectations.

The DOJ’s profile lists Slater as a former assistant attorney general and gives her service dates as 2025–2026. The Associated Press reported that she left the role on February 12, 2026, so her confirmation is a completed event, not a current appointment.
