In the United States, official manufacturer-listed prices for the examples here range from $315 for a Seiko 5 Sports SRPG35 to $6,900 for a Grand Seiko SBGA211 Spring Drive. That $6,585 difference is real, but it is not a like-for-like comparison: the watches differ in collection, movement, finish and intended segment. Seiko and Grand Seiko each offer multiple collections, so the useful question is what specific models cost and what their specifications offer—not which brand has one universal price.
What do Seiko and Grand Seiko watches cost?
The figures below are manufacturer-listed prices in USD on official US pages, checked October 8, 2026. They are not verified sale, marketplace or checkout prices, and prices and availability can change.
| Brand and collection | Reference | Official US listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Seiko 5 Sports | SRPG35 | $315 |
| Seiko Presage | SRPB41 | $475 |
| Seiko Presage | SPB463 | $950 |
| Seiko Prospex | SPB453 | $1,300 |
| Grand Seiko Spring Drive / Heritage | SBGA211 | $6,900 |
The examples show that Seiko’s own prices span several collection tiers, while Grand Seiko’s listed examples also span multiple price points. The Grand Seiko collections page includes other models, including Evolution 9 examples; $6,900 is the listed price for the SBGA211, not a universal Grand Seiko price.
Why the price comparison needs exact models
“Seiko vs. Grand Seiko” is a brand-level shorthand, not a comparison between two single watches. A Seiko 5 Sports, Presage and Prospex are different collections with different specifications. Grand Seiko likewise offers varied collections and models. Comparing a $315 Seiko with a $6,900 Grand Seiko shows the scale of the listed price gap between those examples, but it does not establish that one is better value or that the watches are equivalent.

A fair value comparison starts with the models a buyer would actually consider, then checks the characteristics that affect use and cost:
- Movement: Identify the caliber and movement type rather than assuming the brand name tells you how a watch works.
- Size and materials: Compare case diameter and thickness, case and bracelet materials, and crystal type against your fit and wear preferences.
- Practical specifications: Check stated water resistance and power reserve, and consider whether those matter for how you plan to wear the watch.
- Finishing and design: Dial, case and bracelet details are partly matters of preference; a higher price does not make those preferences objective.
- Ownership costs: Review warranty and service terms, then compare current local transaction prices rather than treating list prices as the amount every buyer pays.
The cited pages establish model and collection context, but they do not provide a fully matched comparison across all these factors. They also do not establish relative durability, service costs, resale value or investment performance.

What Spring Drive adds to the SBGA211
The SBGA211 is the Grand Seiko example in this comparison that uses 9R Spring Drive. Grand Seiko says the movement is powered by a mainspring, with a quartz oscillator and integrated circuit controlling accuracy through its Tri-Synchro Regulator. In the brand’s explanation, the seconds hand moves in a continuous, silent glide rather than the tick of a quartz watch or the beat of a traditional mechanical watch. This description applies to Spring Drive models; it should not be generalized to every Grand Seiko or Seiko.
Grand Seiko says development of the 9R movement took more than 20 years from initial conception and that it was introduced in 2004. Those are the brand’s statements about its movement history, not an independent assessment of whether Spring Drive justifies a particular price premium.

How to use the listed prices when budgeting
For a personal-finance decision, treat these numbers as a starting point for identifying the segment and model—not as a quote for what you will pay. Check the current official listing and local authorized sellers for the exact reference, taxes, availability and transaction price. Set a spending limit that does not displace essential expenses or planned savings, and decide whether the specific movement, design and materials are worth the difference to you.
The listed gap between the SRPG35 and SBGA211 is $6,585, but the figures alone cannot tell you whether that difference is worthwhile. That judgment depends on the buyer’s priorities and a model-by-model comparison.
