Indeni began as a way to make security-device administration less burdensome: it monitored network devices, looked for operational problems and alerted administrators to issues and possible remedies. Founder and CEO Yoni Leitersdorf described that mission in a 2013 interview. Indeni later broadened its product framing to security infrastructure automation, and BlueCat announced its acquisition of the company in June 2023.
What problem did Leitersdorf set out to solve?
In a January 16, 2013 interview with SecurityWeek, Leitersdorf described the original challenge as the administrative load on firewall teams. Security appliances are complicated to manage, and configuration errors or delayed responses can have serious consequences for an organization. His stated mission was to ask “how do we make the lives of firewall administrators easier?”
In a 2020 interview, Leitersdorf also pointed to the difficulty customers faced in keeping up with security requirements, product versions and vendor configuration guidance. Those are his account of customer problems, not quantified findings about the market.
What did Indeni’s early product do?
The early product focused on network security devices, especially firewalls, from an operational perspective. It collected information from devices and compared it with a knowledge base of potential issues and misconfigurations. It then alerted administrators to current or possible problems and offered guidance on addressing them, according to the 2013 interview.

Leitersdorf described the intended outcome as: “The end result is that Indeni predicts downtime and avoids it.” That is the founder’s claim about the product’s purpose, not independently established evidence of predictive accuracy or avoided outages.
How did Indeni’s product description evolve?
Indeni later described its approach as “Security Infrastructure Automation” (SIA). The company presented the platform as an operational-intelligence layer for IT operations teams, alongside policy management and security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR). Its stated aim was to use expert-contributed automation elements to detect and triage problems across security infrastructure.

Indeni’s platform description and automation documentation describe a collaborative workflow in which automation is written, tested, reviewed and released. These pages explain the company’s own product positioning; they do not establish comparative performance against other vendors.
Who founded Indeni, and how did it sell?
SecurityWeek identified Leitersdorf as founder and CEO and Zak Rubinstein as co-founder and vice president of sales. In the interview, Leitersdorf said he had worked in software and security, including in Israel’s military intelligence and at Check Point, and that he left Check Point in 2009 to start Indeni.

The 2013 interview described a channel-oriented sales model involving distributors, system integrators, channel partners and value-added resellers. Leitersdorf said customers could choose a perpetual license, with service costs starting in the second year, or an annual subscription. He also said Leumi Card received an alpha product in March 2010 and became Indeni’s first banking customer in November 2010. These are historical details reported by the founder; they should not be read as current pricing or terms.
How did Indeni position itself against alternatives?
In the 2013 interview, Indeni named general network-monitoring tools as competitors, while distinguishing its focus as operational expertise for security devices. Later SIA messaging emphasized automation and a broader workflow. These are Indeni’s own positioning claims, not an independent ranking or a current product comparison.

A meaningful present-day comparison would require current information about supported vendors, deployment, remediation workflow, performance, pricing and support. The available company and acquisition descriptions do not provide enough detail to compare products on those measures.

On June 2, 2023, BlueCat announced it had acquired Indeni. BlueCat described Indeni’s platform as analyzing network-device configurations, metrics and logs to detect and remediate appliance issues, and said the acquisition would enhance its DDI management platform. The announcement quoted Leitersdorf, then Indeni’s founder and CEO, saying the company looked forward to expanding its reach through BlueCat’s customers.
