Seattle startup Sanctum is developing enclosed, one-person airport pods where travelers could work, rest, or relax between flights. The company’s website says its premium airport pods are opening in 2027, but it does not identify an airport or say that a site is confirmed. That makes Sanctum a product in development—not a service travelers can currently book.
What Sanctum is developing
Sanctum was founded by Juriana Spierenburg, its CEO, and Jason Koo, its CTO. The University of Washington’s CoMotion Labs profile lists the company in its hardware incubator and describes one-person pods with a screen, adjustable seating, and controls for temperature and music. Those profile details do not establish which features will be included in a commercial product. CoMotion Labs’ Sanctum Space profile lists a launch date of September 22, 2022.
GeekWire reported in June 2024 that Sanctum was working on enclosed, single-user pods with doors and a spherical, cocoon-like shape. The prototypes had seats intended for working or napping, ventilation, electrical outlets, and USB charging. At that point, the seat reclined but remained upright; the founders hoped future designs could offer a more fully reclining chair.
GeekWire described the prototype interior as about 100 cubic feet and said the founders hoped to increase future designs to about 125 cubic feet. These are reported prototype dimensions and a design goal from 2024, not verified specifications for a product that will open to the public. When and where travelers might find the pods
Sanctum’s current website says “Premium airport pods Opening 2027” and describes airports as its starting point. It also says the company is in early conversations with global airport operators, hospitality partners, and design firms. It does not name an airport, announce a signed operating site, or offer consumer bookings. The 2027 date is therefore the company’s stated target, not confirmation that pods will open at a particular airport. Sanctum’s website provides the current deployment statement.
In 2024, GeekWire reported that Sanctum hoped to place prototypes in airports first, gather feedback, and potentially expand later to gyms and coworking spaces. It also described a proposed venue profit-sharing model. These were plans reported at the time; they do not establish that Sanctum has since deployed pods or secured a contract.

What the 2024 price demonstration does—and does not—tell you
A Sanctum demonstration at CoMotion Labs displayed a $1 unlocking fee plus $0.45 per minute, equivalent to $27 for an hour of use at that rate. GeekWire reported that payment would be handled through the Sanctum app. This was a demonstration price in 2024, not a current tariff or evidence that travelers can book a pod today. Sanctum’s website does not state current consumer pricing.
For a traveler budgeting a layover, the distinction matters: there is no confirmed launch location, booking availability, or current price to compare against a ticketed lounge or other airport service.

SEA already has a bookable workspace option
At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), the Port of Seattle lists Jabbrrbox workspaces for calls, meetings, and solo work. The Port says they can be booked on demand in 15-minute increments for up to two hours. Its listing includes technology and comfort features, ventilation and filtration, and multiple daily disinfectant cleanings. It also states that the current units are not wheelchair accessible. The Port of Seattle’s Jabbrrbox page provides the current service details.
Jabbrrbox gives travelers a real local example of an airport workspace, while Sanctum’s proposal is a developing concept oriented toward both work and rest. The Port’s listing does not provide pricing, and it does not establish a direct business relationship or competitive arrangement between the two companies.
