Sean “Diddy” Combs and Diageo announced on January 16, 2024, that they had resolved their disputes. Combs withdrew his allegations and said he would voluntarily dismiss his lawsuits with prejudice. Diageo said it became the sole owner of Cîroc vodka and DeLeón tequila, ending its business relationship with Combs. The announcement did not establish that discrimination occurred, and no settlement amount was disclosed in the contemporaneous reporting reviewed.

What happened between Combs and Diageo?

The dispute concerned Combs Wines’ relationship with Diageo and two spirits brands: Cîroc vodka and DeLeón tequila. In a May 2023 complaint, Combs Wines alleged that Diageo failed to meet commitments and treated the brands differently in areas including investment, distribution, production and marketing. Those statements were allegations in a legal pleading, not court findings; the document itself cautioned that it had not yet been reviewed by the county clerk. Read the complaint.

Combs also alleged racial discrimination. Diageo denied the claims in legal filings. On January 16, 2024, the parties announced that they had resolved their disputes. Their joint statement said: “Sean Combs and Diageo have now agreed to resolve all disputes between them.” Read the joint statement.

What did the settlement announcement say?

The joint statement said Combs had withdrawn his allegations and would voluntarily dismiss his lawsuits against Diageo with prejudice. It also said Diageo was the sole owner of Cîroc and DeLeón and that the companies had no ongoing business relationship. The statement does not announce a payment or describe other financial terms.

What does “with prejudice” mean?

A dismissal with prejudice means the claims cannot be filed again. It describes the stated terms for ending the lawsuits; it does not, by itself, establish that either party’s account of the underlying dispute was correct. The Los Angeles Times explained the term in its coverage of the resolution.

Was Diageo found to have discriminated?

No such finding is reported in the announcement or contemporaneous coverage reviewed. The discrimination and business-treatment claims were Combs’s allegations, which Diageo denied. The parties’ announcement resolved their disputes; it was not a court ruling establishing the allegations as fact. The Associated Press reported the resolution and said no further settlement details were released. Read the Associated Press report.

Was a settlement amount disclosed?

No settlement amount or further financial terms were disclosed in the joint announcement or the contemporaneous Associated Press reporting reviewed. That means the public information cited here does not establish whether money changed hands or what other private terms the parties may have agreed to.
