Yes—the claim was real, but “25 GB of free data” was shorthand. SaskTel’s Black Friday 2024 promotion offered 25 GB of bonus data every month for 24 months on select wireless plans and qualifying activations. It was not a one-time 25 GB gift, a permanent plan increase, or free wireless service. The promotion has expired.
MobileSyrup reported the offer on November 20, 2024, and iPhone in Canada described the same 25 GB/24-month benefit. MobileSyrup’s report and iPhone in Canada’s coverage are the clearest surviving contemporaneous accounts.
What SaskTel customers actually received
The promotion added a separate 25 GB bonus-data bucket to each monthly billing cycle for 24 months, subject to the eligible plan’s terms. The customer still paid the normal monthly wireless charge. When the 24-month promotional period ended, the bonus allowance was scheduled to expire; it was not automatically permanent plan data.
SaskTel’s support documentation explains how bonus data generally works on plans such as totalSHARE and VIP: the bonus bucket can be consumed before the plan’s included full-speed data. In mySASKTEL, customers can see the bucket size, usage, promotion duration and expiry date. SaskTel’s mySASKTEL instructions describe where those details appear.

For example, a plan that already included 25 GB could have provided 50 GB of full-speed data during the promotional period. That example does not mean SaskTel permanently marketed every qualifying plan as a 50 GB plan.
Who was eligible?
The contemporaneous reports describe the offer as applying to select wireless plans and qualifying customers. They do not preserve a complete 2024 eligibility table, so it is not possible to establish from the surviving summaries whether every existing customer qualified, whether a new activation or added line was required, or whether a particular device purchase was mandatory.

Do not assume the offer was available on every plan, transferable between lines, combinable with every discount, or available after a plan change, cancellation or ownership transfer. SaskTel’s later promotions have used different conditions for new customers, upgrades, BYOD activations, student plans, device purchases and two-year voice-and-data terms; those later rules are not proof of the 2024 rules. What “free” did—and did not—mean
- Free bonus data: SaskTel did not charge a separate fee for the promotional data bucket.
- Free wireless service: No. The underlying plan’s monthly price still applied.
- Free phone: Not implied. Device financing, upfront costs, trade-in requirements, SmartReturn conditions or other terms could still apply.
- Free forever: No. The bonus lasted 24 months.
- No strings attached: Not established. Eligibility was limited to select plans and qualifying customers.
How to check a promotion you already received
- Sign in to mySASKTEL.
- Open the wireless service or plan details for the relevant line.
- Look for the bonus-data or promotions section.
- Confirm the bonus bucket’s size, usage, duration and expiry date.
If those details are not visible, SaskTel support can confirm the promotion attached to the line. Do not assume that changing plans, cancelling service, transferring ownership or replacing a device preserves the bonus; the available 2024 summaries do not state how those events were handled.

No. Black Friday 2024 was a November 2024 campaign, and the 25 GB/24-month offer should be treated as expired as of August 18, 2026. SaskTel has advertised later promotions with similar 25 GB and 24-month wording, but they have different dates, plan names and eligibility requirements. Check current wireless terms and SaskTel’s current promotions page rather than relying on the 2024 headline.

What to compare before taking a similar offer
- Total monthly cost after every discount ends.
- Device financing, SmartReturn, trade-in and early-upgrade obligations.
- Whether the bonus is per line or account-wide and whether it is Canada-only or includes roaming.
- Contract or term requirements, including BYOD and activation rules.
- What happens to the data allowance after 24 months.
- Whether the offer can be combined with student, bundle, Internet or other discounts.
- How data is used and whether speeds change after full-speed data is exhausted.
