SAP’s filing gives a preliminary accounting figure of about €751 million for the consideration transferred, although the companies’ public FAQ says they agreed not to disclose the purchase price. For customers, SAP says SmartRecruiters will remain available as a standalone recruiting product and continue to connect with other HCM systems, including Workday and Oracle.
Did SAP acquire SmartRecruiters?
Yes. SAP announced an agreement to acquire 100% of SmartRecruiters on August 1, 2025. The expected closing date at the time was the fourth quarter of 2025, but SAP’s Q3 2025 financial statement records the completed transaction: “The transaction closed on September 11, 2025, following satisfaction of customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.” SAP Q3 2025 financial statement
The transaction brings SmartRecruiters into SAP’s talent-acquisition and human-capital-management portfolio. SAP said the product would be integrated into its SuccessFactors HCM suite, extending recruiting workflows from sourcing through onboarding. SAP’s acquisition announcement

SmartRecruiters’ FAQ says the companies “have mutually agreed not to share the purchase price” and that it “is not being disclosed as public information.” The two statements describe different things: the companies say they did not announce a deal price, while SAP’s financial filing provides a preliminary amount for accounting purposes. SmartRecruiters has said it will operate as a standalone business within SAP “for the foreseeable future,” with its open integration strategy unchanged, including connections to Workday, Oracle and other HCM systems. What is changing in the SuccessFactors integration?
SAP’s 2026 product presentation describes a phased connection between SmartRecruiters and SuccessFactors. It distinguishes foundational capabilities from later planned evolution, so a feature shown on a roadmap should not be treated as already available to every customer. SAP 2026 product presentation
Foundations identified in SAP’s 2026 materials
- Single sign-on and unified product navigation.
- HCM data synchronization.
- Foundational position-to-job enablement.
Capabilities described as planned evolution
- Automated hiring handover and a position-driven job lifecycle.
- Field mapping, phased migration and reporting integrations.
SAP’s SuccessFactors 2605 permissions guide documents controls for accessing SmartRecruiters from the main navigation, creating jobs from positions, administering data mapping and synchronization, setting up Winston Chat, and initiating onboarding from SmartRecruiters. The guide establishes that these controls are represented in product documentation; actual access can depend on configuration, permissions and customer entitlements. What should HR buyers check before choosing a setup?
The practical decision is not simply “SAP or SmartRecruiters.” SmartRecruiters says it remains HCM-agnostic, while SAP is building a deeper connection with SuccessFactors in phases. Buyers should compare the deployment against their existing HR systems and verify which features are available in their release and contract.
| Decision area | What to verify |
|---|---|
| SuccessFactors integration | Which documented integration foundations are live for your configuration, and which desired capabilities remain planned. |
| Non-SAP HCM systems | Whether the specific Workday, Oracle or other-system integrations you rely on remain supported for your use case and contract. |
| Configuration and permissions | Required access, data mapping, synchronization settings and onboarding controls; the permissions guide shows these controls but does not establish that every customer has them enabled. |
| Migration and reporting | Whether your migration approach and reporting needs are covered now or depend on later planned integration phases. |
For a purchase or renewal decision, confirm details with SAP or SmartRecruiters against current release documentation and your agreement rather than assuming that a roadmap item is already delivered.

If you applied to an employer that uses SmartRecruiters, continue to follow that employer’s application instructions and contact its recruiting team about your application. The acquisition announcement does not say that an individual applicant’s workflow or application status changed.
What the companies say about the deal
SmartRecruiters CEO Rebecca Carr said, “Joining SAP is not about changing who we are, it’s about amplifying what makes us great.” SmartRecruiters acquisition FAQ
SmartRecruiters has also described its scale as more than 140 million candidates and 4,000 organizations. Those are company-reported figures, not independently audited market statistics. SmartRecruiters’ closing announcement
Continental AG’s head of Global Talent Acquisition, Claudia Birle, said the acquisition “sends a clear message” about talent acquisition’s role in enterprise transformation. That is a customer perspective; it does not establish measured product outcomes. SmartRecruiters’ closing announcement
The public materials cited here do not establish a market-wide or independently measured effect of the acquisition on hiring speed.
