The headline combined up to $1,200 in trade-in credit, a reported $50 Samsung credit and a claimed $240 storage-upgrade value. Only the trade-in and credit reduced the immediate bill; the $240 was the stated value of receiving more storage.
The promotion was reported on July 15, 2024, with delivery expected around July 24. Samsung’s U.S. offers page, checked for August 16, 2026, promotes newer Fold generations instead of confirming that package. Check Samsung’s live checkout for the exact model, storage tier, trade-in value and final price.
How the $1,490 figure was calculated
The original coverage added three different benefits:

The $50 credit and $240 valuation come from the July 2024 deal coverage, not a current Samsung guarantee. A customer received the full headline value only by qualifying for the maximum trade-in and valuing the free storage upgrade at the stated amount.

What the phone could have cost
Using the approximately $1,899 starting price cited in that 2024 coverage, the maximum immediate monetary reduction would have been about $1,250:
- Approximate phone price: $1,899
- Maximum trade-in credit: −$1,200
- Reported promotional credit: −$50
- Approximate device price before tax: $649
The storage upgrade was additional capacity rather than another $240 deducted from the bill. This example excludes sales tax, shipping, insurance, financing charges, carrier obligations and any difference between your device’s quoted and final trade-in value.

These were preorder-period figures, not current Samsung valuations. Your live quote can differ by model, condition, region, storage and the active campaign.

Trade-in conditions and chargeback risk
Samsung’s Fold6 terms describe the checks shoppers should expect, although the exact July 2024 rules may not have been identical. A qualifying device generally must:
- Power on and hold a charge.
- Have a functioning display.
- Be free of prohibited cracks, breaks, liquid damage and other defects under the applicable terms.
- Not be blacklisted and, where applicable, have a verifiable FCC ID.
- Be reset to factory settings with personal data removed.
- Have Find My Device and other software or account locks disabled.
- Be owned by you rather than leased.
Samsung generally requires shipment within 15 days after you receive the new purchase. If the phone is late, missing, materially different from the declaration or fails inspection, Samsung may reduce or charge back some or all of the anticipated credit. A quoted amount is therefore not necessarily final.

Before shipping, photograph the phone from every side, record its IMEI, factory-reset it, remove account locks and keep the tracking and delivery confirmation.
See Samsung’s Fold6 offers and trade-in terms. Samsung also says offers generally cannot be combined with other Samsung, carrier or retailer promotions unless the specific terms permit stacking.

Was the promotion still running in 2024?
Yes. The July 15 article described the offer as available during the second week of Galaxy Z Fold6 preorders and cited an expected delivery date around July 24, 2024. “Still” referred to that preorder window, not to a continuing 2026 promotion.

Is the same $1,490 deal available now?
It is not verified as active. Samsung’s current U.S. phone-offers page, checked August 16, 2026, highlights newer devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold7 with up to $1,000 in instant trade-in credit or $500 off without trade-in. That newer offer is not interchangeable with the historical Fold6 bundle.
Samsung still displays Fold6 shopping pages, but their price signals conflict: the upgrade page shows from $1,199.99 before trade-in, while the offers page shows from $1,599.99 before trade-in. The difference may reflect configuration, availability or dynamic merchandising. Neither page, by itself, confirms the old $1,490 package.

A high-value Fold owner
A Fold5 owner could have been the strongest fit for the 2024 promotion because the reported maximum credit was $1,200. In 2026, however, compare the live Samsung quote with the resale value and any current carrier incentive before trading in.

A buyer who values storage and a lower price
The bundle made more sense for someone who wanted a Fold6 anyway and would use 512GB or 1TB storage. If you would have bought the lower-capacity model and do not need extra space, the stated $240 storage value is not equivalent to cash.
A shopper seeking the newest generation
Someone prioritizing current hardware, support and an active promotion should compare the Fold7 or the latest model shown on Samsung’s offers page rather than rely on a 2024 headline. The same page lists the Galaxy S26 Ultra with up to $720 in instant trade-in credit for buyers who do not need a foldable display.
When the headline is a poor guide
- Your phone is damaged, locked, blacklisted or worth substantially less than the maximum example.
- You are still financing the old phone; a trade-in does not automatically cancel a carrier or retailer balance.
- You expect $1,490 in cash savings rather than a mixture of credit and storage value.
- You can obtain a better current carrier incentive or private-sale price.
- The desired Fold6 color, storage tier or region is unavailable at checkout.
How to verify an offer before ordering
- Open Samsung’s Fold6 upgrade page or the current offers page.
- Select the exact storage tier, color and unlocked or carrier configuration you want.
- Enter your trade-in model and answer every condition question accurately.
- Read the displayed credit, promotional terms, shipping deadline and return or chargeback conditions.
- At checkout, confirm the final price, taxes, financing, carrier requirements and whether any offer is actually stackable.
Only that live transaction establishes what Samsung will charge and what it will credit. An old article or a search-result headline cannot establish current eligibility.
