Samsung’s $1,345 Galaxy Z Fold5 Deal Was a 2023 Trade-In Promotion

The headline $1,345 saving combined a Shop Samsung app discount, a high-value trade-in and a storage upgrade. The offer was reported in November 2023; its terms are not confirmed as live in 2026.

The advertised $1,345 off the Galaxy Z Fold5 referred to a November 2023 U.S. promotion, not a universal price cut. Droid Life reported that reaching the maximum savings required a 25% discount through the Shop Samsung app, a qualifying trade-in worth up to $1,000, a free storage upgrade, and potentially a $25 first-purchase app bonus. The example price was $574.99, but it depended on meeting the offer’s conditions. As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s current U.S. trade-in pages do not confirm that this Fold5 deal is still available.

What the $1,345 saving included

Droid Life reported the promotion on November 16, 2023, using the U.S. Galaxy Z Fold5 price and Shop Samsung app offer. The advertised total combined cash-like discounts with trade-in credit and a storage upgrade; those components are not interchangeable.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Component Reported offer What it meant for a buyer
Shop Samsung app discount 25%; Droid Life reported a 256GB Fold5 price of $1,349 after the discount from a $1,799 starting price. Required shopping through the app; it was not described as a standard Samsung.com markdown.
Trade-in credit Up to $1,000, depending on the device. Credit required giving Samsung an eligible phone and passing its inspection.
Storage upgrade Free upgrade from 256GB to 512GB; Droid Life assigned it a $120 value. Additional storage, not $120 in cash returned to the buyer.
First-purchase app bonus Potential $25 bonus, subject to first-purchase and app conditions. Not available to every buyer.
Maximum advertised saving Up to $1,345. A stacked, conditional headline figure, not a guaranteed reduction for every order.

Droid Life said the trade-in credit was applied before the app discount and gave $574.99 as a best-case example after the additional bonus. It also reported $1,349 as the app-discount-only price. Treat both as historical illustrations: the exact cart treatment, taxes and eligibility determined what an individual paid. Droid Life’s November 2023 deal report describes the original offer.

What buyers could realistically pay

The following scenarios use the prices and promotions Droid Life reported in November 2023. They are not current quotes, and do not include sales tax or other checkout charges.

  • FULL SCREEN OUTSIDE, MASSIVE SCREEN INSIDE: The 6.2” cover display* is perfect for one-handed scrolling and quick tasks; Or unfold the massive 7.6” interior screen* for everything else
Historical buyer scenario Reported or calculated price Important qualification
No trade-in or app discount $1,799 starting price The source’s reported base price for the 256GB Fold5 in the promotion.
25% app discount, no trade-in $1,349 Droid Life’s reported app price.
$1,000 trade-in followed by the app discount About $599 before any extra bonus Illustrative result based on the reported order of discounts; actual checkout and tax treatment could differ.
Maximum reported example with $25 bonus $574.99 Droid Life’s best-case example, not a broadly available guaranteed price.

A high trade-in quote is not automatically the same as a high economic saving. Compare the credit with what you could realistically receive by selling the old phone, then account for any remaining financing obligation and the value of keeping it as a backup. A useful comparison is: real savings = comparable Fold5 price without the promotion − final checkout price − realistic resale value of the traded phone.

Is the promotion available in 2026?

The $1,345 offer is documented as a November 2023 promotion. Samsung’s current U.S. Trade-In page and trade-in terms describe a current program, but do not establish that the Fold5 has the same app discount, trade-in values, storage offer or bonus today. Do not rely on the historical headline unless the offer appears in a live, eligible Samsung checkout.

Samsung’s December 2024 U.S. MSRP file listed the unlocked Fold5 at $1,799.99 for 256GB and $1,919.99 for 512GB, and marked the model EOL. That is historical list-price context, not evidence of present inventory or a current street price. By comparison, Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP file listed the Fold7 at $1,999.99 for 256GB, $2,119.99 for 512GB and $2,419.99 for 1TB. These are MSRP figures, not live selling prices or direct comparisons of discounted checkout totals. See Samsung’s December 2024 U.S. MSRP file and March 2026 U.S. MSRP file.

How to verify a similar offer before paying

These checks apply if a Fold5 promotion is actually displayed to you. The historical app steps do not prove that the old offer remains live.

  1. Open the Shop Samsung app. The reported 25% discount was app-specific; a desktop Samsung.com cart was not the stated route.
  2. Select the exact model and storage. Check whether the 512GB upgrade is shown as free rather than assuming it is included.
  3. Enter the trade-in model and condition honestly. Confirm the credit in the cart and read the terms attached to that quote.
  4. Check the discount order and bonus. Ensure the app percentage and any first-purchase bonus appear in the order summary; do not count a bonus that is absent.
  5. Review the final total. Separate product price, trade-in credit, taxes, shipping, financing and any accessories before comparing offers.
  6. Save the terms and quote. Keep screenshots of the displayed offer, declared trade-in condition and order summary in case the quote or inspection is later disputed.

Trade-in risks that can erase the apparent bargain

Samsung’s current U.S. terms and FAQ set out requirements for its trade-in program. Promotion-specific terms can differ, so use the terms attached to the actual order. Samsung’s general requirements include a phone that powers on and holds a charge, has a functioning display, is not blacklisted, has no swollen or damaged battery, and is owned by the customer rather than leased. Unless the offer explicitly accepts cracked devices, prohibited cracks, breaks, water damage or excessive defects can make a device ineligible. Anti-theft locks must be disabled and personal information removed with a factory reset.

Samsung generally requires shipment within 15 days of receiving the new product unless an offer specifies another deadline. If a device fails inspection or arrives late, Samsung may charge back some or all of the credited amount. The trade-in also does not clear any carrier or financing balance owed on the phone; Samsung’s U.S. terms leave those obligations with the customer. Before sending the device, photograph it powered on, its screen, frame and back, the IMEI, the reset screen, and the packed shipment; retain the carrier receipt.

What you get with the Fold5—and what to weigh

Samsung’s product documentation lists a 7.6-inch inner display, a 6.2-inch cover display and S Pen support. The Fold5 also uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, a Flex Hinge design and Samsung DeX. Those features make it relevant to buyers who want a large foldable workspace, multitasking or stylus compatibility; the S Pen is not built into the phone. See Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold5 product page.

By 2026, the Fold5 is an older, end-of-life model in Samsung’s U.S. MSRP listing. Samsung’s December 2024 U.S. MSRP file establishes its core features and Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP file lists the Fold7’s U.S. prices, but neither establishes current comparative camera, battery, support-life or performance results. If those newer-generation differences matter to you, verify them against the exact models and warranty terms available before buying.

Buy or skip: a personal-finance test

  • Consider buying if you already own a suitable trade-in, the verified final cost is substantially below newer alternatives, and you specifically value the foldable inner screen.
  • Compare a private sale first if the phone you would surrender has strong resale value. Convenience may be worth less than the difference between Samsung’s credit and realistic sale proceeds.
  • Skip the deal if you would buy another phone just to qualify, still owe installments on the trade-in, or the Fold5 price is close to a newer foldable after all credits.
  • Be cautious with used or refurbished stock. Check hinge and screen condition, battery, carrier compatibility, included accessories, return window and warranty; an older model’s discount is less compelling if those protections are weak.
