Apple is bigger financially and commercially; Samsung Electronics is broader industrially. Apple leads on market value, reported revenue, operating profit, premium-device economics and consumer-platform control. Samsung Electronics reaches more hardware categories, from memory chips and displays to televisions, appliances and lower-priced phones. The answer therefore depends on whether “bigger” means financial power, smartphone volume, manufacturing breadth or ecosystem influence.
This comparison is between Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.—not the entire Samsung Group, which also includes construction, shipbuilding, finance, insurance and biopharmaceutical businesses.
What does “bigger” mean?
A company can be bigger by market capitalization, sales, profit, device shipments, industrial footprint or consumer influence. Those measures produce different winners.
- Market value: what investors collectively value the company at.
- Revenue: the amount sold during a reporting period.
- Profit: what remains after operating costs.
- Unit shipments: how many phones or other devices move through distribution channels.
- Industrial breadth: how many technologies and manufacturing stages the company controls.
- Consumer influence: installed base, loyalty, services and ecosystem reach.

Apple’s fiscal-year figures come from its Form 10-K: Apple FY2025 filing. Samsung’s consolidated figures are reported in its shareholder letter: Samsung 2025 results. Because the periods and currencies differ, the table is directional rather than a perfectly aligned accounting comparison.

Apple is bigger by valuation, revenue and profit
Market capitalization
Apple is the clear leader in equity value. Market capitalization changes every trading day, so any published comparison should display both companies’ exchange, currency and an “as of” date and time. Samsung Electronics’ shareholder letter says its market capitalization exceeded ₩1,000 trillion in 2025, a first for a Korean company; that is Samsung Electronics, not the whole Samsung Group. Use a live market-data quote at publication rather than an undated ranking.
Apple’s 2025 sales mix
Apple reported $416.161 billion in fiscal-2025 net sales. The iPhone generated $209.586 billion, Services $109.158 billion, Mac $33.708 billion, iPad $28.023 billion, and Wearables, Home and Accessories $35.686 billion (Apple filing).
That mix explains Apple’s economics. Premium hardware produces substantial gross profit, while the same installed devices can generate recurring App Store commissions, cloud storage, subscriptions, payments and accessory sales. Apple reported approximately 850 million average weekly App Store users in 2025; this is an engagement measure, not a count of Apple-device owners (Apple services announcement).

Samsung is the broader industrial company
Samsung Electronics’ 2025 revenue was ₩333.6 trillion and operating profit ₩43.6 trillion. Its businesses extend well beyond Galaxy phones.

Who sells more smartphones?
There is no permanent answer. Rankings change with the quarter, geography and definition of “share.” Analysts may measure shipments, sell-through, revenue, active devices or premium phones, and IDC, Counterpoint and other firms do not use identical methods.
- IDC’s Q1 2026 data lists Apple and Samsung among global leaders and notes premium-segment strength (IDC smartphone market share).
- Counterpoint reported the iPhone 16 as the best-selling smartphone model in 2025, with Apple occupying seven of the global top ten models (Counterpoint model ranking).
Some 2025 analyst estimates placed Apple ahead of Samsung for full-year shipments, while quarterly rankings alternated or remained close. That is an analyst-reported result, not proof that Apple is permanently the larger company. Samsung covers entry-level, midrange and premium price bands; Apple sells fewer models and concentrates on premium devices.

Apple generally captures more smartphone revenue and profit even when Samsung is close in units. Its average selling prices, Pro-model mix, accessories, services and retention raise revenue per device. Samsung’s Galaxy A range expands reach and volume, while its S and Z lines compete in premium phones and foldables.

The practical distinction is broad volume versus concentrated value: Samsung competes across more price points, whereas Apple monetizes a smaller, higher-spending base more deeply.
Product breadth: Samsung leads
Apple’s principal categories are iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple TV, HomePod and services including iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Pay and the App Store (Apple product categories).
Samsung Electronics adds Galaxy phones and foldables, tablets, watches and earbuds to TVs, monitors, appliances, memory, displays, storage, foundry services and automotive electronics (Samsung segment report). Samsung therefore has the wider physical-product and manufacturing footprint; Apple has the more concentrated consumer platform.

Ecosystems and installed-base influence
Apple’s integration
- iPhone, Mac and iPad continuity through iCloud, Handoff and AirDrop.
- Apple Watch requires an iPhone for normal use.
- AirPods, Apple Pay, App Store purchases and family sharing reinforce switching costs.
- Apple controls its operating systems, hardware design, app distribution and services.
Samsung’s cross-category reach
- Galaxy phones, tablets, watches and Buds connect through Samsung services.
- SmartThings links phones with compatible TVs and appliances.
- Galaxy Book provides Windows integration, while Samsung Health and Galaxy AI extend across devices.
- Samsung announced a goal of more than 400 million Galaxy AI devices by the end of 2025; this is a company target, not an independently audited active-user count (Samsung announcement).
Apple controls more of the core software stack. Samsung offers broader hardware integration but relies substantially on Android and Google services. “Better ecosystem” therefore means tighter platform control for Apple and wider device choice for Samsung.
Semiconductors: two kinds of vertical integration
Samsung’s manufacturing integration
Samsung designs and manufactures memory and logic products, operates foundry facilities and produces displays. Its DS division generated approximately ₩130.1 trillion in 2025 revenue and ₩24.9 trillion in operating profit (Samsung report).
Apple’s product integration
Apple designs the major silicon families used in iPhone, iPad and Mac, then outsources physical fabrication. Its strength is co-designing chips, operating systems and hardware for specific products, improving performance, battery life and user experience.
Samsung is more vertically integrated in components and manufacturing; Apple is more integrated in product design, software, services and customer experience. Neither description should be treated as an all-purpose winner.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRegional strength differs
- United States: Apple is typically stronger in premium phones and installed-base loyalty; Apple and Samsung remain the leading vendors in many quarters (Counterpoint U.S. data).
- Europe and other developed markets: Apple is strong at the premium end, while Samsung’s price range broadens Android coverage.
- India, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa: Samsung’s lower-priced models usually provide wider coverage, although Chinese brands are major competitors.
- China: Apple faces Huawei and other domestic premium brands, while Samsung’s smartphone position is much weaker than its global position.
Which company leads on each definition?
| Question | Best answer |
|---|---|
| Which is worth more? | Apple, using a timestamped market-cap comparison |
| Which reports more profit? | Apple in absolute dollar terms, with non-aligned periods and currencies noted |
| Which sells more phones? | Period- and methodology-dependent |
| Which earns more smartphone revenue and profit? | Apple |
| Which makes more types of technology? | Samsung Electronics |
| Which has stronger platform control? | Apple |
| Which offers broader price and hardware choice? | Samsung |
| Which has the larger component-manufacturing footprint? | Samsung |
What the answer means for a buyer
A company-level verdict is not a product recommendation. Apple is usually the stronger fit for someone already using an iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods or substantial iCloud and App Store purchases. Samsung is often the better fit for Android users who want foldables, stylus-enabled tablets, Windows integration, broader price choices or compatibility with varied non-Apple hardware.
Check the exact model before buying: Apple Watch requires an iPhone, Galaxy Watch compatibility varies by model and phone, and software-update policies, storage, processors and trade-in offers change. Current products and offers are listed on Apple’s iPhone, Mac, iPad, Watch and AirPods pages and Samsung’s Galaxy phones, foldables, tablets, watches, Buds and SmartThings pages.
