What changed in Samsung’s offer
When Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 pre-orders opened, an extra $100 discount appeared tied to the Shop Samsung app and reservation-related eligibility. On July 23, 2025, Droid Life reported that Samsung had made that discount available through its regular web purchase route too. The change removed an app-specific hurdle; it did not make the maximum discount automatic for every buyer. How the $899 calculation worked
The headline amount combined the U.S. unlocked 256GB model’s $1,999.99 starting price, a maximum $1,000 trade-in credit, and about $100 in additional effective promotional savings. The deal coverage described the storage-upgraded offer as $220 off, including the value associated with moving from 256GB to 512GB. Who could reach the maximum discount?
The contemporaneous report named a Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy S25 Ultra as examples of trade-ins that could qualify for the full $1,000 credit in that promotion. Other eligible phones could receive lower amounts, such as $900 or $800, depending on Samsung’s offer and the device. The credit was not guaranteed based solely on owning a particular model: eligibility, storage, carrier status, functionality, and condition could matter.
A lower trade-in value raises the effective cost. For example, if the same hypothetical offer credited a phone at $600 rather than $1,000, the buyer’s effective price would be about $1,299 before tax, assuming the other promotional savings applied. At $400 credit it would be about $1,499; with no qualifying trade-in, about $1,899 after the additional $100 savings. These are arithmetic examples, not historical quotes for specific devices.

What the headline price did not include
- Tax: The $899 calculation was an effective pre-tax price, not necessarily the amount due at checkout.
- A guaranteed credit: Samsung’s inspection could result in a reduced or rejected trade-in if the device did not meet the offer’s requirements. The remedy depended on the terms in effect when the order was placed.

- Accessories, protection, or financing costs: These were not part of the $899 calculation unless a separate offer explicitly included them.
- Unlimited time to send the old phone: Trade-in deadlines and shipment requirements are set by the specific offer. Keep the order terms and shipment records.
Before shipping a trade-in, photograph its condition, back it up, remove accounts, factory-reset it, and retain the shipment tracking and proof of delivery. Read the offer terms for what happens if the inspection changes the value or rejects the device.

Is the original $899 offer still available?
No: the specific $899 price described in July 2025 was a pre-order promotion, so it should be treated as expired. Samsung’s later Fold7 offer page may advertise a different trade-in amount or promotion; it does not establish that the same storage and discount combination is still offered. Does the Fold7 make sense at a promotional price?
The Fold7’s thinner, lighter design and larger displays are central reasons to choose it over a conventional phone. But a discount does not erase its trade-offs: contemporary coverage flagged battery and charging limitations, camera compromises including the telephoto camera, and the lack of S Pen support. - Check the trade-in model, storage, carrier status, and condition requirements, then compare the estimated credit with what you would receive if Samsung adjusted it after inspection.

- Compare the complete price after tax and any financing costs. Confirm whether the offer can be combined with financing, accessories, protection, carrier discounts, or retailer credits; do not assume stacking is allowed.
