Samsung’s “16 years in a row” milestone is out of date. In a March 9, 2026 announcement, Samsung said it ranked No. 1 in the worldwide TV market for the 20th consecutive year, from 2006 through 2025, with 29.1% of global TV-market revenue in 2025, citing Omdia data. That is a revenue-share record—not proof that Samsung sold the most sets, leads every TV category, or makes the best choice at every price.
What Samsung’s 20-year streak measures
The relevant measure is global TV-market revenue share: Samsung’s portion of the money generated by TV sales worldwide during the year. Samsung reported 29.1% for 2025, compared with 28.3% in 2024 and 30.1% in 2023 in its investor report. The reported figures show revenue share, not the share of physical TV units shipped. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report lists the annual figures; its March 2026 announcement identifies 2025 as the 20th year of the run, citing Omdia.
That distinction matters because a company selling more expensive sets can capture a larger share of sales revenue without shipping more TVs. Revenue leadership also says nothing by itself about profit, customer satisfaction, picture quality, or which brand offers the best value to an individual shopper.
Where Samsung says its position is strongest
Samsung reported particularly high shares in higher-priced tiers for 2025, citing Omdia: 54.3% of global TV-market revenue for televisions priced above $2,500 and 52.2% for those priced above $1,500. These are company-reported category figures, not a claim that Samsung has the same share of all TV sales.

A premium-heavy product mix is one plausible contributor to Samsung’s overall revenue lead: sales of higher-priced TVs can account for substantial revenue. Samsung’s U.S. catalog spans entry-level Crystal UHD and QLED models as well as OLED, Neo QLED, lifestyle sets and newer display types. The range is visible in the Samsung U.S. TV catalog; availability and model names vary by market and model year.
Samsung describes Neo QLED, OLED, lifestyle TVs, ultra-large screens and newer display technologies such as Micro RGB as areas behind its position. Its account of the history also highlights the design-led Bordeaux TV in 2006, LED models in 2009, connected Smart TVs in 2011, The Frame and QLED in 2017, and Micro LED in 2020, followed by OLED, Neo QLED, Mini LED, AI-TV and Micro RGB products in 2025–2026. Those are company-selected milestones; they do not establish that any one product or technology caused the two-decade revenue-share record.

Other brands can lead specific categories
An overall revenue ranking can coexist with competitors leading a particular size, technology or price segment. Hisense says, citing Omdia, that it ranked first by worldwide shipments of TVs measuring 100 inches and larger in each year from 2023 through 2025, with a 57.1% shipment share in 2025. It also reported a 70.3% share of the global Laser TV category in 2025. Those claims concern segment shipments, not the overall TV market’s revenue, so they do not contradict Samsung’s broader ranking. Hisense’s announcement gives the category figures.
Nor does the streak establish a complete ranking of Samsung against LG, Sony, TCL or Hisense by units, picture quality or customer value. Those comparisons require different data and, for product performance, model-by-model testing.

Does the market record mean a Samsung TV is the best buy?
No. Market leadership is useful context about commercial scale and strength in revenue-generating parts of the market, but it cannot pick a TV for a household. A buyer should compare the exact model, price, size, picture performance, software and features against alternatives available in their country.
For premium and design-focused shoppers
Samsung is worth considering for premium OLED and Neo QLED sets, large screens and design-oriented models such as The Frame. Those categories align with the company’s reported strength in higher price tiers. Still, compare the particular model with alternatives rather than treating the brand’s overall rank as a quality score.

For shoppers on a tight budget
TCL and Hisense may offer stronger hardware value at lower prices. Tom’s Guide’s July 30, 2026 brand assessment said Samsung’s value improves higher in its range and was less impressed by its options below $700 than by competing TCL and Hisense sets. It also noted that Samsung can cost more while offering fewer hardware features at a comparable lower price. Tom’s Guide’s assessment is a brand-level buying judgment, not a substitute for comparing current model prices and specifications.
For viewers choosing TV software
Samsung’s Tizen and Smart Hub may not suit viewers who prefer Google TV or Roku. Software preference is personal, so try the interface or check which streaming apps and features a specific model supports before buying.

For a particular room or use
Room brightness, movie viewing, gaming and screen size can change which TV makes sense. Check the model’s brightness and contrast performance, HDR format support, refresh rate, gaming inputs and variable refresh rate (VRR) support against your needs. Availability, specifications and model suffixes vary by country, size and model year; a brand-wide market statistic cannot resolve those details.
Quick Recap
How to use Samsung’s record when comparing TVs
- Identify the metric. Samsung’s 20-year claim is about global revenue share, not unit shipments.
- Match the comparison. Compare revenue with revenue, shipments with shipments, and like-for-like product categories with one another.
- Choose by model and budget. Compare current prices and relevant specifications for TVs sold in your market, rather than assuming the market leader is the best value.
- Check the features you will use. Confirm software, HDR formats, gaming support and the screen size and performance suited to your room.
