The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra went on sale in the U.S. on March 11, 2026, with unlocked prices starting at $1,299.99 before sales tax. Samsung lists the 512GB model at $1,499.99 and the 1TB model at $1,799.99. Trade-in credits and discounts may lower the checkout price, but the amount depends on the offer and your eligibility.
How much does the Galaxy S26 Ultra cost?
Samsung’s U.S. store lists these unlocked prices. They are before sales tax, and carrier installment pricing or promotions can differ.

The 1TB model costs $500 more than the base model. Samsung lists 12GB of RAM for the 256GB and 512GB versions and 16GB for the 1TB version; extra RAM alone is not a strong reason for most buyers to pay the premium. Which storage tier is the best value?
- Choose 256GB if you want the lowest price, mostly stream content, and routinely back up or delete large files. It can feel tight if you record a lot of high-resolution video, keep large games installed, or download media for offline use.
- Choose 512GB if you take lots of photos and videos, keep a phone for several years, or prefer to store files locally. The extra $200 buys twice the capacity of the base model.
- Choose 1TB only if you have a clear need for that much local storage or want the 16GB RAM configuration. For ordinary messaging, browsing, streaming and photography, the $500 premium over 256GB is difficult to justify.
When did it launch, and where can you buy it?
Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 series at Galaxy Unpacked on February 25, 2026. U.S. preorders opened that day, and general availability began March 11. Samsung says it is sold through Samsung.com, Samsung Experience Stores, Amazon, Best Buy and nationwide carriers. The launch cycle is complete; “finally here” no longer means the phone is awaiting release. Details are in Samsung’s availability announcement.

What do Samsung’s current offers really save?
Samsung’s U.S. product page shows up to $720 in instant trade-in credit and a possible $250 discount without trade-in. These are offer-dependent figures, not guaranteed reductions for every buyer or configuration. Check the terms and final cart price on Samsung’s product page before ordering; promotions can change.
Trade-in credit depends on the device
“Up to $720” is a maximum headline, not a standard allowance. The value depends on the eligible device and its condition. Damage, a locked device, missing parts or a condition description that does not match the phone can reduce or invalidate the credit. Samsung’s instant credit can lower the amount due at checkout, while carrier offers commonly apply credits to monthly bills over time.
Before sending in a trade-in, photograph its condition, back it up, erase it, remove account locks and keep the shipping and delivery records. Compare the final credit against what you could get by keeping or selling the old phone yourself.

Compare the whole carrier offer
A carrier’s “free” or heavily discounted phone can require an eligible trade-in, a qualifying unlimited plan and bill credits over a financing term. Check the total plan cost, activation fees, credit schedule and amount you would owe if you leave early. A monthly payment is not necessarily a lower total price.
Samsung’s listed $54.17 per month for 24 months on the 256GB model is the $1,299.99 list price divided across 24 months, before applicable taxes or other charges. It is financing—not a discount.
What changes from the Galaxy S25 Ultra?
The S26 Ultra’s clearest buying differences are a built-in privacy feature, a slimmer and lighter body, updated camera hardware and a newer U.S. processor. The gains matter most if you will use the new features; they may not justify replacing a recent Ultra that still meets your needs.

Privacy Display for viewing in public
Samsung calls this the first mobile phone with a built-in Privacy Display. It is designed to reduce side-angle visibility, which may be useful when viewing banking details, passwords or work documents in public. It should not be treated as a guarantee that nobody nearby can see the screen. Samsung’s launch description is at its Galaxy S26 announcement.
A thinner, lighter body
Samsung lists the S26 Ultra at 7.9mm thick and 214g, with a 6.9-inch display. Its corporate report lists the S25 Ultra at 8.2mm and 218g. That is a 0.3mm reduction in thickness and 4g less weight; the display size remains large. See Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report.

The listed rear cameras are a 200MP main camera with an f/1.4 aperture, a 50MP ultrawide camera at f/1.9, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera and a 50MP 5x telephoto camera at f/2.9. The front camera is 12MP. Samsung lists up to 100x digital zoom, 4K video at 120 frames per second in Pro Video mode and 8K at 30fps. Samsung says the wider main-camera aperture helps low-light capture; that is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee of better real-world photos than another phone.

Processor, display and battery
- Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the U.S., built on a 3nm process. Samsung’s product page claims 19% faster processing; treat that as Samsung’s comparison claim rather than a universal performance result.
- Display: 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate.
- Battery: 5,000mAh typical capacity. Capacity alone does not establish how long the phone lasts in everyday use.
- Charging: Samsung specifies wired charging up to 60W and wireless charging up to 25W. It says the phone can reach up to 75% in about 30 minutes under its stated test conditions; actual charging varies with temperature, starting charge, charger, cable, settings and use.
Samsung’s AI functions can vary by language, region, account, software version and connected services. Check the availability and terms for the features you expect to use rather than assuming every function works the same everywhere.

Charger and accessories
A wall charger is not included. Samsung lists the phone, a data cable and an ejection pin in the box. If you do not already own a compatible USB-C charger, buying one adds to the effective cost; confirm charger compatibility and charging capability before purchasing. A case or screen protector is also a separate purchase.
Tax and protection
Sales tax is additional and depends on where the phone is purchased and delivered. Samsung’s purchase page also offers Samsung Care+ options, but coverage and prices can change; compare the current terms with any protection you already have through a carrier, credit card or insurance policy.

Which colors are available?
Samsung lists Cobalt Violet, White, Black, Sky Blue, Pink Gold and Silver Shadow. Pink Gold and Silver Shadow are Samsung.com or Samsung Experience Store exclusives according to Samsung’s launch materials. Color availability can vary by storage tier and seller.
Should you buy it now or wait?
- Coming from an older Galaxy S phone: The S26 Ultra is worth considering if you want the large display, S Pen-oriented design, advanced zoom cameras and new Privacy Display, and the full price fits your budget.
- Coming from an S24 Ultra or S25 Ultra: Consider waiting for a stronger offer if your current phone still works well. A newer processor and privacy feature may not be enough to justify paying a high upgrade cost by themselves.
- Switching from an iPhone Pro Max: The S26 Ultra offers Android customization, an S Pen and Samsung’s zoom-camera hardware. Weigh those against the value you place on iOS, your existing devices and app workflow; no current official U.S. retail iPhone price listing is published for a price comparison.
- Want a lower-cost S26: Samsung’s launch prices started at $1,099.99 for the S26+ and $899.99 for the S26. They have smaller displays and less advanced camera systems than the Ultra; the standard S26 has a 6.3-inch display. The Ultra’s premium is most defensible if you specifically want its camera hardware, large screen, S Pen features or Privacy Display.
For an unlocked purchase, compare Samsung’s direct discount and instant trade-in offer with the value of selling your current phone separately. For a carrier offer, calculate the full cost of the required plan and financing period before deciding that the phone is cheaper.
