The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus has sold for $599.99, a $150 reduction from a stated $749.99 comparison price. That offer was for the 8GB/256GB Intel Core 3 model, XE550XGA-KC1US—but the available current listings do not confirm that a new unit still costs $599.99. Best Buy and Samsung pages have also shown $774.99, so verify the price, condition, and seller on the live listing before counting on the discount.
What the $599.99 price does—and does not—confirm
Best Buy’s recorded listing identifies the discounted laptop as the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus in Neptune Blue, model XE550XGA-KC1US. The listed configuration has an Intel Core 3, 8GB of memory, 256GB of storage, and a 15.6-inch AMOLED display. Best Buy’s older listing showed $599.99 against a $749.99 comparison price, a $150 difference.
That is evidence of a real sale price, not proof that the price is still available for a new laptop today. A more recent Best Buy product-page listing showed $774.99; Samsung’s purchase page also showed $774.99, while Google’s Chromebook catalog listed the configuration at a $749 MSRP. Those are different price references and may reflect different dates, retailers, or promotions. Check the live listing and final checkout total rather than relying on a search result or an older deal mention.
For the price record, see Best Buy’s recorded listing and review page. The product is also listed by Best Buy and Samsung; Google’s Chromebook catalog is another price reference.

Samsung’s product specifications and Google’s catalog describe the configuration. Samsung’s “up to 13 hours” is a test-condition claim, not a promise of that runtime for every workload. Screen brightness, wireless use, video, applications, temperature, and battery condition all affect real-world results.
Why $599.99 could be a good price
The main reason to consider this Chromebook is its 15.6-inch AMOLED screen. OLED technology can deliver strong contrast and deep blacks, making the display appealing for video, photos, and everyday viewing. The large panel also gives browser windows, documents, and spreadsheets more room, including for split-screen work.

Despite its size, Samsung lists the laptop at 2.58 pounds and about 0.47 inches thick. The 256GB of storage is also more generous than the 64GB or 128GB often found in lower-cost Chromebooks. For typical ChromeOS use—web applications, Google Workspace, video calls, and a reasonable collection of browser tabs—the Intel Core 3 and 8GB of memory should be a practical combination.
ChromeOS is designed around web applications and Google services, with Android apps available where compatible. It is not equivalent to having the full Windows or macOS versions of desktop software. Google describes its ChromeOS device ecosystem; app availability and compatibility depend on the particular software and workload.

Trade-offs to weigh before buying
- Desktop software: If your work depends on Windows-only business tools, full desktop Adobe applications, engineering software, or other specialized programs, check compatibility before choosing a Chromebook. A Windows or Mac laptop may be necessary.
- Memory and demanding work: 8GB is suitable for ordinary Chromebook use, but a 16GB model gives more headroom for heavy multitasking, Linux development, or unusually large numbers of tabs. Samsung’s March 2026 business MSRP sheet lists a 16GB/256GB version at $999.99; that is a published MSRP figure, not a consumer sale-price comparison. See the Samsung MSRP sheet.
- Storage type: The 256GB UFS capacity is useful for a Chromebook, but UFS is not the same as a fast, replaceable NVMe SSD in a premium Windows laptop. Do not assume the memory or storage can be upgraded; confirm the configuration you need before purchase.
- Display considerations: AMOLED’s contrast is a benefit, but OLED screens can involve reflections, possible sensitivity to display dimming methods, image-retention considerations, and differing power use depending on content and brightness. These are factors to consider, not established defects in this model.
- Form factor: The thin, light chassis is still a 15.6-inch clamshell. It is less compact than a 13- or 14-inch laptop, and this is not a touchscreen convertible with tablet mode.
- Price uncertainty: The recorded $599.99 sale and the higher prices on other pages show why a specific deal can disappear or vary. A headline or indexed price alone does not establish a live offer.
What to know about the advertised AI features
Samsung promotes Google AI-related features in services such as Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, as well as tools including “Help me read,” “Help me write,” and Live Translate. Availability can depend on an internet connection, Google account, current ChromeOS software, supported language, and compatible application. The Quick Insert key provides a shortcut to AI and other functions; it does not make every feature available offline or without eligibility requirements.
Any Google AI or Google One promotion should be treated as a temporary offer, not permanent hardware value. Activation deadlines, eligibility—including whether you have previously redeemed a qualifying offer—and renewal or billing terms can apply. Review the current Google Chromebook Plus offer terms before assigning the promotion a dollar value or relying on it. Readers who already pay for Google One may receive less incremental value.

How to check the listing before you pay
- Confirm the exact configuration. Look for model XE550XGA-KC1US and verify Intel Core 3, 8GB memory, 256GB storage, and the AMOLED display. Product-family names alone can conceal other configurations, including a 16GB model.
- Choose the condition deliberately. Make sure the listing says new if that is what you want. Retailers can show separate new and open-box prices, and an open-box price is not the same deal as a new unit. Best Buy’s open-box listing identifies a condition-specific option; its availability and terms may vary.
- Check seller and local availability. Confirm that the seller is Best Buy or another retailer you trust, then check shipping or pickup availability for your ZIP code. Regional stock can affect what is offered.
- Read the condition and return details. For open-box inventory, check cosmetic condition, included charger and accessories, battery condition if disclosed, return window, and any restocking terms. Do not assume open-box stock includes the same experience or protections as a new unit.
- Review the final total and promotion terms. Check the price after tax, shipping, protection plans, and accessories. Separately confirm whether an AI/Google One offer is still included, whether you qualify, and when activation or cancellation is required.
- Check ChromeOS support information. Before buying, verify the current update-support date for the exact device through Google’s device-support information; the product pages cited here do not establish that date.
Who should buy it—and who should look elsewhere?
It makes sense if
- You primarily use browser-based tools, Google Workspace, and compatible Android apps.
- You want a large, high-contrast display for schoolwork, documents, calls, and media.
- You value a relatively light 15.6-inch laptop and do not need Windows software.
- You use compatible Samsung Galaxy devices and may benefit from ecosystem features such as Quick Share or Samsung Notes integration. Some features require compatible devices, a Samsung account, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, or the relevant application.
Look elsewhere if
- You need Windows-only applications, modern AAA PC gaming, or broad compatibility with specialized peripherals.
- You regularly run demanding local workloads and want more than 8GB of memory.
- You need upgradeable memory or storage, or want a touchscreen convertible.
- You can save substantially with a basic Chromebook and do not care about AMOLED image quality or the larger display.
For alternatives, compare by need rather than assuming one model is a direct substitute: a less expensive non-OLED Chromebook may suit basic schoolwork; a 16GB Chromebook may better accommodate heavy multitasking; a convertible is the better fit for tablet use; and a Windows laptop is more appropriate for desktop applications. Google’s Chromebook Plus overview and catalog can help compare current Chromebook options.
