Short answer: Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook Plus did launch at Best Buy with a $50 gift-card promotion on October 4, 2024. Best Buy still lists the laptop, but that gift card is a historical launch offer—not a deal you should assume is active in August 2026. Check the live cart for any incentive, then compare the retailer’s price, condition, returns, protection and pickup terms with Samsung’s listing.
What launched at Best Buy
The launch model was Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook Plus in Neptune Blue: a 15.6-inch Chromebook with an Intel Core 3 processor, 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. Best Buy identifies its unit as model XE550XGA-KC1US. The October 4, 2024 launch report described it as the same single-spec configuration Samsung sold directly. Chrome Unboxed’s launch report provides the historical date and promotion details.
“Chromebook Plus” is Google’s higher-spec Chromebook category; it is not the name of Samsung’s older Chromebook Plus convertible models.
What the $50 perk actually was
The $50 was a Best Buy gift card, not an instant $50 reduction on the laptop’s price. Its value depended on your intention to shop at Best Buy later, and it should not be combined with a member reward, trade-in credit or credit-card rewards as though all were one discount.

The offer was reported at launch in October 2024. A current product page or an old search result does not prove that it remains available. Add the laptop to your cart and look for a gift-card line in the checkout summary. If it is absent, treat the promotion as expired.
Is the Chromebook still available?
Best Buy’s listing remains active and identifies the product as sold by Best Buy. Shipping and pickup depend on your ZIP code, and an active page does not guarantee local inventory or a display unit.

Strengths and trade-offs
Why it can be a good fit
- A bright AMOLED screen in an unusually light 15.6-inch design.
- Comfortable for browser work, streaming, writing, video calls and Google Workspace.
- Useful port selection, including HDMI and microSD.
- Samsung ecosystem features such as Phone Link-style access, Quick Share and Samsung Notes support when compatible devices, accounts and software requirements are met.
Why to think twice
- The display is Full HD and non-touch; there is no stylus or 360-degree convertible mode.
- 8GB is suitable for ordinary ChromeOS multitasking but less comfortable for very heavy browser sessions or Linux applications.
- ChromeOS cannot run Windows or macOS software natively; verify web, Android or Linux alternatives first.
- 256GB is ample for many Chromebook users but limiting for large local media libraries.
- “Up to 13 hours” is an advertised maximum, not a guaranteed runtime.
- Gaming and professional creative workloads should not be treated like dedicated Windows-laptop use cases.
Check these items before ordering
- Match the model and configuration: XE550XGA-KC1US, Core 3, 8GB, 256GB and Neptune Blue.
- Enter your ZIP code to confirm shipping, pickup and any store display availability.
- Confirm seller, condition, included accessories and warranty.
- Look for the $50 gift-card line in the cart; do not rely on the headline or an archived article.
- Read the return deadline, restocking rules and any open-box limitations.
- Compare accidental-damage coverage, deductibles, exclusions and repair procedures before adding protection.
- Verify Google One AI Premium eligibility, redemption deadline and what happens after 12 months.
- If you need multiple monitors, budget for a dock: Best Buy’s Q&A says the laptop has one HDMI connector and requires a docking station for multiple displays.
Who should buy it?
It is a sensible choice for someone who wants a large, high-contrast screen in a light machine and spends most of the day in browser-based work. It is especially attractive to Google Workspace users and Samsung Galaxy owners who can use compatible ecosystem features.
Skip it if you need Windows or macOS applications, a touchscreen convertible, high-end graphics performance or extensive local storage. Do not pay extra merely because an old article mentions the $50 gift card.
Verdict
The Galaxy Chromebook Plus remains a distinctive large-screen Chromebook, but the headline deal is historical. Buy from Best Buy only when its live price, confirmed checkout incentive, local-service advantages or return terms beat Samsung’s current offer. Otherwise, compare Samsung’s price, trade-in and protection options directly and judge the laptop on its Core 3/8GB hardware and non-touch AMOLED screen—not on an expired launch promotion.
