It is an engine plant—not an Airbus aircraft assembly line.
What Safran is building in Casablanca
Safran’s October 13, 2025 announcement describes a new facility to assemble LEAP-1A turbofan engines. The engines power Airbus aircraft, including the A320neo family. Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade also describes the wider engine complex as including assembly and testing alongside separate maintenance and repair operations: Safran’s announcement and the ministry’s account.
Safran says the planned assembly facility will cover 13,000 square meters, involve a €200 million investment, and be associated with 300 jobs. These are company-announced plans and expected figures; they are not evidence that construction is complete or that the jobs have already been created.
When it is expected to open and how much it could produce
Safran expects the plant to be operational by the end of 2027. Its stated maximum assembly capacity is up to 350 LEAP engines annually. Capacity is a planned ceiling, not a report of current production. Safran’s 2025 integrated report reiterates the planned 2027 commissioning and annual capacity.

The facility is intended to complement Safran’s existing assembly operations at Villaroche in France and support a planned production increase across CFM International, the engine joint venture between Safran and GE Aerospace. Safran said CFM International planned to reach around 2,500 LEAP engines per year from 2028. That is a stated future production plan, not achieved output; it refers to CFM International’s overall plan rather than the Casablanca plant alone. Assembly plant and maintenance shop are separate projects
Safran’s announcement also covers a distinct Casablanca maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) shop. Its figures should not be added to or substituted for the assembly line’s specifications.

All figures in the table are Safran’s announced plans and capacity statements. The MRO shop will maintain and repair engines; it is not an additional assembly line. Further details appear in Safran’s announcement and its separate MRO announcement.

The announced project is an industrial investment in engine assembly and related services. Safran has published a planned site size, investment, employment figure, operating target and capacity, but the available official statements do not establish construction completion, actual engine output, realized capacity, or the final number of jobs. Nor do they provide an independently verified estimate of the project’s broader economic impact.

Safran also said it signed a memorandum guaranteeing access to renewable energy for most of its Moroccan facilities, effective in 2026. That is a broader commitment concerning its Moroccan operations; the announcement does not establish a particular power configuration for the Casablanca assembly plant.
