SafeCard Reviews: Does Its RFID Protection Actually Work?

Short answer: SafeCard’s RFID-blocking claims are not independently verified by the sources reviewed. Research on other blocking cards shows that results can vary by design and test conditions, but it does not establish whether SafeCard works or fails. Treat the seller’s protection promises as claims, not proven results.

What SafeCard claims to protect against

SafeCard is sold as a passive wallet insert intended to interfere with nearby RFID and NFC communication. Its product page says it creates a protective shield for credit cards, IDs and passports and blocks all unauthorized RFID and NFC scanning attempts. The seller also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee; check the current terms at checkout because offers and conditions can change.

Those are seller statements, not independent test findings. The reviewed product page does not provide a reproducible testing protocol, name a laboratory, identify the card types tested or report measured results. In particular, a claim to block “all” scans is broader than the evidence provided there.

What independent research says about RFID-blocking cards

A 2023 academic paper, “Beware of Pickpockets: A Practical Attack against Blocking Cards”, examined blocking cards using MIFARE Ultralight and MIFARE Classic smart cards. Researchers analyzed 14 cards and evaluated attacks on 11 reactive blocking cards. In the described scenarios, they bypassed 8 of the 11 reactive cards; the paper also describes three shielding cards that prevented communication in those scenarios.

SaiTech IT 5 Pack RFID Blocking Card for Credit Debit ID Card, Black
  • SECURE YOUR WALLET FROM e-PICKPOCKETING: Prevent potential identity and financial theft through your contactless cards. This is the simplest and most effective prevention solution! Block RFID and NFC signals, protect your personal information, and enjoy peace of mind wherever your travels or business take you.
  • JAMMING CHIP: An antenna and jamming chip makes up the main components of the card. The antenna will sense incoming radio waves and draw power for the chip to create a jamming signal. Lifetime usage as the card does not require battery.
  • BROAD WORKING DISTANCE: With a 2.4” working distance, your entire wallet stays protected. The premium RFID blocking card helps secure cards within 1.2” on either side, providing reliable protection against electronic pickpocketing.
  • ULTRA-THIN & COMPACT: At the size of a standard credit card and at only 0.03” thick, the card will fit into any wallet, purse or card case. Keep your wallet compact with no added bulk from this card. Best for travel, business, and everyday use.
  • TEST THE CARD: Test the card is working at your local supermarket. At the self-service checkout machines, combine the card and a contactless card on the payment reader. Payment with the contactless card will be blocked and an error message should occur on the reader.

The authors emphasized that the type of noise a blocking card uses affects its protection level: “Our findings highlight that the noise type implemented by the blocking cards highly affects the protection level achieved.” These findings show that blocking-card designs can perform differently. They apply to the products, technologies and attack setup in that study—not to every RFID or NFC credential.

Does that study prove SafeCard works or fails?

No. The paper does not identify SafeCard as a tested product, so its results cannot establish that SafeCard passed or failed. A review of the available sources found no independent SafeCard-specific laboratory test. That is a finding about the sources reviewed, not proof that no such test exists anywhere.

Cardian RFID Blocking Cards Set 3 – Credit Card Protector for Wallets, Passport Shield & NFC Blocking Device | Anti-Skimming Protection for Debit, ID & EMF Cards | Travel Accessories for Men and Women
  • Stop Digital Theft Instantly: Protect your credit cards, debit cards, passports, and IDs with Cardian’s advanced smart NFC and RFID card blocking technology—keeping hackers and skimmers out of your wallet

To substantiate a product’s performance, a useful test would identify the credential and reader technologies, reader distance, card orientation, wallet placement and test procedure, then report pass/fail results. Without those details, broad claims cannot tell a buyer whether a particular card will be blocked in their own setup.

What an RFID blocker can—and cannot—do

A wallet blocker has a narrow physical purpose: interfering with nearby contactless communication when a compatible credential is kept in the wallet. Evidence about that use should not be taken as a promise to prevent online fraud, phishing, data breaches, account takeover or card fraud generally. The academic results concern MIFARE Ultralight and MIFARE Classic in the study’s described setup; they do not establish performance for all payment cards, passports, badges or RFID systems.

  • Invisible Yet Active: Ultra-thin and sized to fit any wallet slot, this rfid blocking card adds no bulk; Invisible protection helps shield your debit cards and IDs from electronic skimming without changing the way you carry your wallet

  • Drop and Defend: Keep the RFID blocking card in your wallet or travel bag, or save it as a backup; Simply insert it alongside your credit and debit cards for immediate protection against identity theft — no charging, no setup

How to assess SafeCard or compare formats

If you are considering a physical barrier, compare the evidence for the specific product and credential rather than relying on the category label “RFID blocking.” Useful questions include:

  • Which card technologies and frequencies were tested?
  • Does the seller name a laboratory or provide a reproducible protocol and pass/fail results?
  • What reader, distance, orientation and wallet placement were used?
  • Is the product a single wallet insert, individual sleeves or a wallet with shielding?

These formats are different ways to place a physical barrier around credentials, but format alone does not establish effectiveness. A reviewed page lists generic RFID-blocking cards and sleeves; those listings do not verify SafeCard’s claims or the performance of any particular listing. The available study does not establish a universal best option.

SafeCard review verdict

SafeCard may be intended to block nearby RFID or NFC communication, and blocking cards as a category are technically plausible. But the available evidence does not verify SafeCard’s own effectiveness. The fairest conclusion is neither “proven protection” nor “definitely a scam”: its advertised performance remains unverified in the sources reviewed.
