Epatha Merkerson’s net worth at $12 million. That is a third-party estimate, not a confirmed account balance: the source does not provide an auditable calculation, and none of the available sources establishes her actual assets, debts, salary, or investments.
How reliable is the $12 million estimate?
Celebrity Net Worth is the source of the $12 million figure. The estimate page reviewed was published around 2022 and does not show a transparent valuation method or primary financial records. It should therefore be described as a published estimate, not a verified measure of Merkerson’s personal wealth.
No independently verified competing net-worth figure is established by the available sources. Agreement among websites would not itself confirm a figure, particularly if those sites repeat the same estimate without independent documentation.
What her career establishes—and what it doesn’t
The Television Academy identifies Merkerson as an American film, stage, and television actress. Its profile says she played Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on Law & Order from 1993 to 2010 and appeared in 395 episodes. The Academy also records her 2005 Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for Lackawanna Blues. These accomplishments document the scope and recognition of her work, but do not establish her compensation or retained wealth. Television Academy profile.

A March 2026 Atlanta Journal-Constitution interview reported that Merkerson remained a cast member on Chicago Med during its eleventh season. In that interview, she said, “Dick knows that I’m focused, that I come to work and I know my lines.” The statement describes her approach to work; the interview does not disclose her pay. The Television Academy’s archival interview, conducted by Jim Colucci in New York on June 14, 2013, covers her early interest in theater, path into television, work on Law & Order, and performance in Lackawanna Blues. Merkerson reflected on the role’s impact: “People really appreciated who the character was. I even have parents telling me that their children have gone into law enforcement or into law because they watched Law & Order and that ‘Van Buren’ made such an impact.” This is useful career context, not financial evidence. Why episode counts and longevity cannot verify a net worth
A long-running role and a continuing television career may help explain why an estimate is plausible, but they do not reveal how much an actor earned or kept. Episode totals alone cannot establish salary, contract terms, taxes, expenses, residual income, liabilities, or investment performance. Without records documenting those figures, calculating a personal net worth from career milestones would be speculation.
