There is no established Canada-wide price showing what a patient will pay for Rybelsus versus Ozempic. Ontario’s formulary lists Rybelsus at CAD 7.5303 per tablet unit for the cited presentations and lists a cited Ozempic pen at CAD 227.94, but those figures are not comparable monthly retail costs or universal patient payments. Your actual cost depends on province, coverage eligibility, plan terms, pharmacy price and dispensing fee.
What the Ontario formulary figures show
The Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary lists these amounts for specific products. They are administrative benefit prices, not quotes for an uninsured patient at a pharmacy.

| Product listed in Ontario | Formulary amount | What the record says |
|---|---|---|
| Rybelsus 1.5 mg tablet (DIN 02551012) | CAD 7.5303 per tablet unit | Drug benefit/unit price and amount paid by the Ministry of Health (MOH) are both CAD 7.5303; limited-use product. Listing date: March 31, 2026. Ontario Formulary listing |
| Rybelsus 3 mg tablet (DIN 02497581) | CAD 7.5303 per tablet unit | Drug benefit/unit price and amount paid by MOH are both CAD 7.5303; limited-use product. Listing date: December 29, 2023. Ontario Formulary listing |
| Ozempic 0.68 mg/mL prefilled pen, 3 mL pack (DIN 02540258) | CAD 227.94 drug benefit price | Amount paid by MOH: CAD 78.141; limited-use product. Listing date: January 31, 2024. Ontario Formulary listing |
The units differ: Rybelsus prices are per tablet, while the Ozempic figure is for a 3 mL prefilled pen. A tablet unit and a pen pack are not equivalent treatment periods, so these values cannot be compared as though they were monthly totals.
Why the formulary price may not be what you pay
A formulary price is a listed amount used within a benefit system. It does not establish the cash price at a pharmacy, the amount a private insurer reimburses, or what an individual owes after a deductible or copayment. Ontario’s Ozempic record itself distinguishes the CAD 227.94 drug benefit price from the CAD 78.141 paid by MOH; neither number alone identifies every patient’s share.

#1 Best Overall
Both cited Ontario listings have limited-use status. Eligibility and plan rules determine whether a public plan covers a prescription and on what terms. These Ontario entries do not establish coverage rules across all provincial and territorial plans.
How coverage and savings can change the comparison
Public and private drug plans
For public coverage, check your province’s formulary and eligibility criteria for the exact product and prescription. For private coverage, ask your insurer whether the medicine is covered, whether prior authorization or other conditions apply, and what deductible, copayment or coinsurance remains. A covered medicine can still involve out-of-pocket costs.
Ozempic savings-card announcements
Novo Nordisk Canada announced that, effective May 29, 2026, eligible people without public or private coverage who choose Ozempic could receive additional savings intended to align costs with generic alternatives. The card is described as usable at pharmacies across Canada except Quebec; savings are applied automatically at Novo Nordisk Care Rx, operated by Rexall, and select partners. The announcement does not promise a universal final price. Novo Nordisk Canada announcement, May 26, 2026
A July 6, 2026 announcement describes expanded savings-card access for eligible people with private drug coverage. The stated access also excludes Quebec and includes automatic savings through Novo Nordisk Care Rx and select partners. Confirm current eligibility and terms directly before relying on a discount. Rybelsus support and dispensing options
Novo Nordisk’s patient-support page describes services for select medicines that may include coverage navigation, savings cards and financial assistance. It directs Rybelsus patients to product information but does not establish a specific Rybelsus discount amount. Novo Nordisk patient support
Novo Nordisk Canada and Rexall describe Novo Nordisk Care Rx as a prescription-dispensing and home-delivery service with automatic savings for eligible patients and no subscription fee. It is offered across provinces and territories except Quebec; its availability does not mean every patient qualifies for a discount. Novo Nordisk Care Rx information

Rybelsus is semaglutide in tablet form, while Ozempic is a prescription semaglutide solution supplied in multidose prefilled pens, according to Health Canada’s product database. Health Canada: Rybelsus Health Canada: Ozempic
Strength labels for Rybelsus changed in 2026. Novo Nordisk Canada says the updated tablet strengths—1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg—correspond to the original 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg strengths. The company says the updated tablets are smaller and use lower strengths because of more efficient absorption. Do not interpret a lower number on a new label as a simple dose reduction or substitute one strength for another without guidance from your healthcare professional. - Confirm the exact prescription. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist to identify the product, strength, prescribed dose and package. For Rybelsus, make sure the listed strength reflects the updated formulation if applicable.
- Ask your pharmacy for its price. Request the price for the prescribed package, including the dispensing fee, and ask whether the pharmacy can bill your plan directly.
- Check public-plan eligibility. Contact your provincial or territorial plan or consult its current formulary for the specific product and any limited-use or other eligibility conditions.
- Check private-plan terms. Ask your insurer what it covers and what you would owe after any deductible, copayment or coinsurance.
- Verify any savings program. Confirm eligibility, participating pharmacies, regional exclusions and current terms with the program. Do not assume a card’s announced savings equals a guaranteed final price.
- Compare the same basis. If comparing the two options, use the pharmacy’s quoted cost for each prescribed package and the relevant coverage and dispensing fees. Do not turn Ontario’s unit and pack figures into a monthly comparison without verified dose and duration information.
What to conclude from the available prices
The Ontario records provide specific benefit-price information, but they do not establish which medicine is cheaper for a particular patient. A useful comparison requires your province, eligibility, insurance terms, prescribed regimen, pharmacy quote and any applicable savings. Medication choice or switching should be discussed with your prescriber and pharmacist, not based on the listed prices alone.
