ServeTheHome (STH) announced on December 4, 2025, that Ryan Smith had joined the publication as Managing Editor. Patrick Kennedy said Smith would help cover selected events, manage the publishing schedule, and move reporting and reviews through production. Kennedy also said he was staying at STH.

Who is Ryan Smith?

Before joining STH as Managing Editor, Smith served as Editor-in-Chief at AnandTech for a decade, according to Kennedy’s announcement. Smith had also contributed to STH during the preceding year, including coverage of AMD’s CES 2025 keynote.

Why did STH add a Managing Editor?

Kennedy described a growing workload across STH’s publication, YouTube channel, Axautik Group newsletter, and STHLabs. He said his responsibilities needed to change rather than simply expand, and cited his trust in Smith’s editorial judgment and experience running a publication.

What will Smith do?

Kennedy outlined three initial areas of responsibility:

  • Cover selected keynotes and events.
  • Help define and manage the publishing schedule.
  • Help move production and writing through completion.

To illustrate the production challenge, Kennedy mentioned a review that remained delayed for two months after its photography and screenshots were complete. He presented it as an example of a writing bottleneck, not as a general measure of STH’s publishing times.

Is Patrick Kennedy leaving STH?

No. In the December 4, 2025, announcement, Kennedy wrote, “I am not departing STH, not even close.” He described the appointment as a redistribution of responsibilities as the operation grew. That statement reflects what Kennedy said at the time; it does not independently establish anyone’s current employment status.

What the announcement establishes

The appointment concerns STH’s editorial operations, not a change to a product, service, or personal-finance offering. The announcement does not provide a salary, contract terms, or other employment details.
