What the Allyn family’s Wrexham investment involved
Wrexham AFC announced the Allyn family as new minority investors on 30 October 2024. Their investment was made through Red Dragon Ventures LLC, described as a joint venture between the Allyn family and Wrexham co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The club said the venture would focus on growth and success in and around Wrexham. The announcement framed the investment as support for both the club’s ambitions and the wider community.

McElhenney and Reynolds said: “Wrexham has earned the world’s attention and we are focused on bringing on board world-class partners to help with the next phase of our growth.” Eric Allyn, manager and chief investment officer of the Allyn family office, said: “We view Red Dragon Ventures as a vehicle to invest in a world-class football club, and, importantly, in the welcoming community of Wrexham.”
Wrexham chief executive Michael Williamson also described the investment as “great news for both the Club and the local community in Wrexham.” These statements explain the parties’ publicly stated rationale; they do not disclose financial terms or guarantee particular sporting or economic results.

How much of Wrexham do the Allyns own?
The October 2024 announcement did not state the exact percentage acquired or the amount paid. BBC’s contemporaneous report likewise noted that the financial details were not disclosed. There is therefore no publicly announced 2024 price or exact stake to cite.
Wrexham AFC Limited’s accounts for the year ended 30 June 2025 provide a later snapshot of the ownership structure, rather than a precise statement of the original deal. The accounts say Wrexham Holdings LLC held 100% of Wrexham AFC Limited’s share capital on that date. They also state that Red Dragon Ventures owned more than 10% of Wrexham Holdings. Wrexham Holdings’ majority owner was The R.R. McReynolds Company LLC, jointly owned by McElhenney and Reynolds; Red Dragon Ventures was owned by that company and Wrexham Scope LLC, which was owned by the Allyn family. The club’s published accounts describe these entities and the position as of 30 June 2025.

In December 2025, BBC described the Allyn family’s stake as around 15%. That is a later reported characterization, not an exact percentage stated in the 2024 announcement or a disclosed purchase term. The accounts’ “more than 10%” figure applies to Red Dragon Ventures’ ownership of Wrexham Holdings, not directly to a stated Allyn-family percentage in the club itself.
How the investment fits Wrexham’s wider ownership picture
In December 2025, Wrexham also welcomed Apollo Sports Capital as a minority investor. BBC reported that McElhenney and Reynolds remained controlling owners. The report said Apollo’s stake was thought to be below 10%, but that was an estimate, not an announced term; the amount invested and exact shareholding were not available. BBC Sport Wales’ report is useful context, but it does not make the Apollo and Allyn transactions comparable in price or economics.

Red Dragon Ventures’ activity has also extended to a local business: the joint venture acquired a majority stake in Wrexham Lager. The Associated Press reported that the brewery aimed to expand international production and distribution, but that it did not disclose financial details. That brewery transaction is separate from the Wrexham AFC equity investment.
The club’s later accounts also record a capital injection by Wrexham Holdings into Wrexham AFC Limited on 8 December 2025 and a stadium construction contract signed that month. Those are subsequent developments, not terms of the October 2024 investment.

What the investment does—and does not—tell supporters
The public record establishes the date, investment vehicle, stated growth and community rationale, and later ownership disclosures. It does not reveal what the Allyns paid, the exact percentage they acquired in 2024, or how much of Red Dragon Ventures’ value is attributable to the club versus its other activities. An ownership percentage is not itself a measure of what an investor paid or of the club’s valuation.
Welcome to Wrexham is part of the club’s public profile, but it was not a term of the Allyn investment. Disney+ UK announced on 10 April 2026 that the series had been renewed for three more seasons, expected to take it through season eight and through 2029. Disney’s announcement is separate media context, not a financial disclosure about the club.
