GenTV’s plan for Skillhouse paired a horror feature with short episodes and a staged release across theaters, pay-per-view and streaming. That is an announced distribution model, not proof that it outperformed conventional releases: available announcements document the plan and one film, but do not establish the model’s results or the film’s current viewing availability.
What is Skillhouse?
Skillhouse is a horror film directed by Josh Stolberg and produced by GenTV founder Ryan Kavanaugh, Shane Valdez, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Brad Baskin, according to Fathom Entertainment’s March 31, 2025 announcement. Its premise puts ten influencers in a content house where they are forced into lethal social-media challenges.

Fathom named Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Bryce Hall, Hannah Stocking, Neal McDonough, McCarrie McCausland and Paige VanZant among the cast. Kavanaugh described the project as using influencers’ appeal and placing them inside the story. That is his characterization of the film’s approach, not an independent assessment of its effect on the film business.
How GenTV said it would release the film
In a January 25, 2025 announcement, Group Black described a deal with GenTV for a minimum of five pictures. The proposed format would pair each full-length feature with ten episodes of seven minutes apiece. The announcement laid out this sequence:

#1 Best Overall
- Theatrical: release the feature in cinemas.
- PPV: follow with a pay-per-view window.
- SVOD/AVOD: then move to subscription and ad-supported video-on-demand distribution.
Group Black also said its technology could integrate brand placements during post-production and allow placements to be changed on a near-real-time basis. These are descriptions of the partners’ proposed format and capabilities; the announcement does not establish how widely the format was implemented or how it performed compared with a traditional release.
What the release announcements establish
Group Black’s January announcement said an April 2025 theatrical date was then slated. On March 31, Fathom announced a nationwide U.S. release for July 11, 2025. Red Sea Media’s May 13, 2025 announcement also named Fathom and July 11. The later date is the last documented U.S. release plan among these announcements; the earlier April date was superseded in the published plans.
Those dated announcements do not confirm current showtimes, the film’s precise final release history, or whether it can now be watched via PPV or a streaming service. Group Black said a streaming partnership would be announced later, but the cited announcements do not identify a confirmed streaming partner or verify that the planned path from paid short episodes to streaming subscribers happened.

Promotional figures associated with Skillhouse and GenTV should be understood as attributed claims, not independently verified performance data. Fathom said the film’s first eight minutes debuted on GenTV.com in 2024 and had more than 100 million views; its announcement does not provide an independent audit of that figure. Fathom also stated that Bryce Hall and Hannah Stocking had more than 100 million combined social followers, a dated figure rather than a current platform count.

The article explicitly says VentureBeat’s newsroom and editorial staff were not involved in creating the content. The figures are dated promotional claims and projections, not audited results or evidence of current performance.
What GenTV’s announcement does—and does not—show
The announced model combined three design choices: a feature accompanied by short episodes, a planned sequence of theatrical, PPV and SVOD/AVOD windows, and flexible brand placement. Those choices indicate how the partners said they intended to package and distribute content. The available announcements do not establish that the approach advanced the film, television or streaming industries, beat conventional releases, converted short-form viewers into subscribers, or resulted in five completed and released films.
For viewers, the practical distinction is between a documented plan and confirmed access: Fathom announced a U.S. theatrical date in 2025, but these sources do not establish where Skillhouse is available now. For anyone evaluating the business model, the announcements provide a format and a set of promotional metrics, but not independent audience research, audited engagement, or a box-office result.
