The company’s Agent Rewind capability, part of its enterprise Rubrik Agent Cloud offering, is designed to make agent actions traceable and help organizations roll back selected changes to data and applications. Its scope depends on the systems and assets covered by a deployment.
What Rubrik announced
Rubrik announced Agent Rewind on August 12, 2025. The company describes it as a way to connect an AI agent’s actions to context—including prompts, plans and tools—and then recover from unwanted changes. Its launch announcement says the capability uses Rubrik Security Cloud recovery features and immutable snapshots, and can roll back changes involving files, databases, configurations and code repositories.
Rubrik’s solution brief describes collecting agent inputs, memory, prompt chains, tool use, outputs and modifications in an immutable audit trail. The intended distinction is targeted recovery: reverse an agent’s specific modifications without restoring an entire environment or undoing unrelated changes. Those are vendor descriptions of the product’s design, not independently verified results for every system or deployment.
How Agent Rewind is meant to work
- Make actions visible. Rubrik says Agent Rewind records what an agent did and links activity to relevant prompts, plans and tool calls, helping an organization investigate what happened and why.
- Identify the affected assets. The product is intended to connect an agent’s activity with changes to supported applications and data, rather than treat every incident as a whole-environment recovery.
- Recover selected changes. Rubrik says organizations can use its recovery capabilities and immutable snapshots to roll back agent modifications. The company does not establish a universal undo mechanism that works across every agent, application or asset.
This design aims to close the gap between noticing an agent has gone off-script and recovering from the resulting change. Rubrik’s customer BioIVT CISO Chad Pallett described the goal in the launch release as closing the loop on “what happened, why it happened, and how to undo it.” That is an endorsement quoted in Rubrik’s announcement, not independent testing.

What Rubrik later added for Claude Code and Cowork
In a June 9, 2026 announcement, Rubrik described Agent Cloud coverage for Anthropic’s Claude Code and Claude Cowork. For code repositories, Rubrik says it keeps continuous immutable snapshots of GitHub and Azure DevOps repositories outside the repository and beyond compromised credentials. The company points to force-pushing over commit history and deleting branches as examples of changes that version control alone may not undo; it says a known-good repository or organization state can be restored with one click.
The same announcement describes backup, version tracking and restoration for Claude agent configuration, including system prompts, tool permissions, skills, CLAUDE.md and settings. This is a vendor-described scope for the named integrations; it should not be read as evidence that every Claude deployment or every repository is automatically covered.

Agent Rewind is one part of Agent Cloud
Rubrik’s August 4, 2026 announcement presented Agent Identity as an expansion of Agent Cloud. The company describes the wider platform as having four pillars: observability, identity, runtime security and Agent Rewind. It says the identity expansion includes agent and MCP runtime monitoring, access controls for individual tool calls, and short-lived scoped tokens, with integrations named for Okta and Microsoft Entra ID.
For an organization evaluating agent safeguards, that broader scope matters: monitoring can reveal activity, identity controls can limit who or what may invoke tools, runtime controls can govern actions as they happen, and recovery can address changes after they occur. Rubrik’s announcements describe these capabilities as parts of its platform; they do not provide an independent comparison showing that Rubrik is more effective than competing products.

What this means for personal-finance readers
Agent Rewind is enterprise software, not a consumer “undo” feature for a personal AI assistant, bank account or household computer. The announcements reviewed here do not establish that an individual can use it to reverse an AI-generated payment, recover a personal email account, or undo changes in an arbitrary app. If an AI agent affects a personal financial account, use the bank or service provider’s own dispute, account-recovery and security procedures rather than assume Rubrik covers it.
For businesses handling financial data, the practical question is not simply whether an agent can be undone. It is whether the specific agent, tools, repositories, applications and data stores in use are integrated and covered, what action history is retained, and how narrowly recovery can be applied without overwriting legitimate changes.

Questions to ask before relying on it
- Which agents, platforms and assets are supported in the proposed deployment, and are the exact integrations available now?
- What does the audit trail capture—prompts, plans, tool calls, outputs and modifications—and how can an incident be traced from one to another?
- Can recovery target only the agent’s changes, and how are unrelated updates protected?
- Which snapshots and recovery points are available, and what operational process is required to restore a repository, configuration or other asset?
- How do identity and runtime controls limit an agent before a mistake occurs, and how do those controls fit with existing identity systems?
Rubrik’s releases include safe-harbor language indicating that announced or described features may not become generally available. Organizations should confirm current availability, supported editions, integrations and recovery scope with Rubrik for their specific use case. The cited public materials do not independently establish rollback reliability, recovery times, or customer outcomes across deployments.
