Those are historical launch MSRPs—not a quote for today’s retail or used-market price—and they do not apply to the canceled 12GB model or the later RTX 4080 SUPER.
RTX 4080 16GB launch MSRP in the US and UK
| Region | NVIDIA launch starting price | Launch date | Tax context |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $1,199 | November 16, 2022 | US advertised prices generally exclude state and local sales tax, which may be added at checkout. |
| United Kingdom | £1,269 | November 16, 2022 | UK consumer prices generally include VAT. |
NVIDIA announced these regional starting prices for the launched 16GB GeForce RTX 4080. “Starting at” described the baseline for the Founders Edition and qualifying entry-level partner cards; it was not a promise that every custom model would cost the same. NVIDIA announced Founders Edition availability alongside cards from add-in-board partners in its US launch announcement and UK launch announcement, and confirmed availability on November 16, 2022.

The price refers to the Ada Lovelace-generation RTX 4080 with 16GB of GDDR6X memory and 9,728 CUDA cores, as listed in NVIDIA’s RTX 40-series specifications.
Why the UK price is not a straight conversion of the US price
The UK launch price was £1,269, not a conversion of $1,199 at a single exchange rate. Exchange rates change, and the price conventions differ: UK consumer prices generally include VAT, while US shelf prices generally do not include state and local sales tax. Regional distribution, duties, retailer structures and NVIDIA’s regional pricing also affect the final figures. Comparing £1,269 directly with a US pre-tax listing therefore does not compare like with like.

The $899 RTX 4080 was announced, then canceled
NVIDIA initially announced two products under the RTX 4080 name: the 16GB model at $1,199 in the US and £1,269 in the UK, and a proposed 12GB model at $899 and £949. The 12GB card was canceled before release. In its October 14, 2022 notice, NVIDIA said that having two substantially different GPUs with the same 4080 designation was confusing.
As a result, $899 and £949 were announced prices for a canceled configuration, not the launch MSRP of a normally released RTX 4080. A listing or article using either number should identify it as the canceled 12GB model.

RTX 4080 versus RTX 4080 SUPER launch prices
| Product | US launch starting price | What the figure refers to |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 4080 16GB | $1,199 | Original card; launched November 16, 2022. |
| GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB | $999 | Separate model; NVIDIA announced availability from January 31, 2024. |
The RTX 4080 SUPER’s $999 US launch price was $200 below the original RTX 4080’s US launch starting price, but it does not change the original card’s historical MSRP. NVIDIA lists the SUPER with 16GB of GDDR6X and 10,240 CUDA cores, compared with 9,728 cores in the RTX 4080 16GB. See NVIDIA’s SUPER announcement and RTX 4080 family specifications. A launch price alone does not establish what either card costs or whether it is in stock now.

No. MSRP is the manufacturer’s launch baseline; a retailer’s price for a particular partner card and a current price for a used or remaining-stock card are separate figures. The standard RTX 4080 is a previous-generation product, and remaining new stock or used listings can vary with supply, condition, warranty and seller. NVIDIA’s current family page lists the RTX 4080 family but does not provide a dependable live MSRP for the standard RTX 4080.

A UK NVIDIA Marketplace listing for an MSI Suprim X RTX 4080 16GB showed £1,249.99 but was marked out of stock. That was one partner-card listing, not a current UK-wide market price or a generally available offer. Check the listing’s status rather than treating its displayed price as a live benchmark.

What to check before buying a listed RTX 4080
- Confirm the exact model: Check whether the listing is for the RTX 4080 16GB or RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB. Treat any reference to an RTX 4080 12GB as a red flag requiring clarification; that configuration was canceled.
- Identify the seller and condition: Distinguish a Founders Edition from a partner model, and check whether the card is new, used, refurbished or open-box.
- Calculate the full cost: For a US purchase, account for sales tax at checkout; for a UK purchase, check whether the displayed consumer price includes VAT. Add shipping where applicable.
- Verify stock and warranty: An advertised price is not a purchasable offer if the item is out of stock. Check warranty coverage, seller terms and whether the warranty applies in your country.
- Compare actual alternatives: Compare the available RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 SUPER listings at their current prices. Their launch MSRPs are historical reference points, not evidence of today’s best value.
