Vacancies, pay and age in the notice
The indicative notice gave an age range of 18–36 years as of 1 January 2025. It included a one-time three-year relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Category-based age relaxations and other eligibility conditions are governed by the detailed CEN; the stated age range alone does not guarantee eligibility.
Rank #2
Initial pay was listed as ₹18,000. Vacancy counts, post parameters and eligibility can differ across the advertised posts and railway or zone. Consult the detailed vacancy and post-parameter tables rather than treating the headline figures as a guarantee of a particular posting.
Eligibility depends on the post
The notification directs applicants to check the post parameters and vacancy tables and to meet eligibility conditions by the application closing date. Educational qualifications, medical standards and suitability vary by post. The detailed CEN’s Annexure A and relevant vacancy table are the reference points; the recruitment headline does not establish that a particular qualification is sufficient for every post.

The notified selection stages are Computer Based Test (CBT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), document verification and medical examination. Meeting a CBT qualifying threshold is not, by itself, a guarantee of shortlisting or appointment.

CBT structure
The notification describes a 100-question, 90-minute CBT. Each question carries one mark, with one-third of a mark deducted for each incorrect answer. The indicative subject distribution is:
| Subject | Indicative questions |
|---|---|
| General Science | 25 |
| Mathematics | 25 |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 30 |
| General Awareness and Current Affairs | 20 |
The notification says the actual section-wise distribution may vary. It sets minimum qualifying percentages of 40% for UR and EWS candidates, and 30% for OBC non-creamy layer, SC and ST candidates. It notes that a two-mark relaxation may be given to PwBD candidates where there is a shortage against reserved vacancies. Qualifying marks are not a promise of selection; shortlisting depends on the recruitment process and applicable criteria.
